Well, I guess judging by it being gone 10 o'clock, it's going to be myself to call this one, so I'd better jump in quick!

Today marks the 25th Anniversary of the official start of Club GTI. In July 1987, David Pipes put the finishing touches to the first Rabbit issue and sent it out to the formative members, who had earlier met up at the Three Ways Hotel at Mickleton, Gloucester, and put £100 in each to start Club GTI:

This extract from Rabbit 1 confirms the date, which had on the first page mentioned an approach to the Golf GTI-driving Murray Walker (16v of course ) to be our President: 16 July 1987.

From Murray declining our invite, there was a silver lining: we later got the UK boss of VW Motorsport, Nigel Walker, to become our President instead!

From being the only UK Club catering for the Mk1 & Mk2 Golf GTI back in the late '80s, many of us then without driving licences, still in school (or not even born!), through the Noughties and beyond, into a sea of internet forums, keyboards, smartphones, tablets and the Mk7 GTI just around the corner, it's a milestone - and an occasion to mark

At Club GTI, we're big on history. Our history goes in parallel with the success of the GTI, so it's nice to dip into that history once in a while and enjoy the foundations we have.

Or rallying, touring car racing, sprinting... you name it.

At Club GTI, it's always been about enjoying driving or enjoying seeing the cars being driven. Some people take it to extremes, but this sort of general-tearing-about stuff, it rather floats our boat. With the Polo WRC in a phase of intense R&D, we're not going to be short of inspirational material any time soon. Tuck in.
