    The GTI for rallying: With the Polo GTI R5 Volkswagen returns under new auspices in the rally sport. In the second half of 2018, Volkswagen will offer the roughly 270-hp rally version of the Polo professional team and ambitious drivers to compete in championships around the globe, including the FIA ​​World Rally Championship (WRC). A sketch of the car based on the new sixth generation Polo gives a first taste.

    Volkswagen Motorsport Director Sven Smeets proclaimed to the Motoring Press, 'With the Polo GTI R5, we would like to successfully transfer our expertise from four World Rally Championship titles to customer sport and offer a first-class sports equipment for a number of rally championships, from the national series to the World Cup. Until the first race in the coming year, we will be putting the Polo GTI R5 through an intensive test program to cope with the very different track conditions around the world."

    The development of the Polo GTI R5 has been in full swing since the beginning of the year and first test runs are planned later this year. The experience gained from the successful World Rally Championship will be directly incorporated: Volkswagen Motorsport Technical Director François-Xavier will be responsible for the development of the Polo GTI R5, "FX" Demaison, father of record-winning Polo R WRC. Gerard Jan de Jongh also contributes his full expertise as a senior project engineer. Previously, the Dutchman was racing engineer for Sébastien Ogier, who won the drivers title with Volkswagen four times in a row. A much of the GTI R5 Polo is a descendant of the 2017 Polo R WRC which we all know had had it's programme cancelled as a direct consequence of the diesel issue.

    The Polo GTI R5 has like the production model - whose launch is still the end of this year - about a powerful four-cylinder turbocharged engine with gasoline direct injection. This is complemented by four-wheel drive, a sequential five-speed racing gear and a comprehensive safety package as the most important features of the 2012 launched by the Automobile World Federation FIA R5 category. It offers private drivers, teams and importers the opportunity to use cost-effective and powerful rally vehicles in national, regional and international championships.

    For Volkswagen Motorsport, the Polo GTI R5 marks another milestone in the strategic realignment: following the successful launch of the Golf GTI TCR, which has been driving victories and titles in numerous championship titles since 2016, Volkswagen Motorsport is now expanding its customer-sporting activities the rally sport.

    As part of the biggest model offensive in its history, Volkswagen is extending its model range by adding a compact-class crossover: the T-Roc. The new crossover from Volkswagen brings fresh impetus to the compact SUV class. It offers maximum personalisation, innovative digitalisation, perfect connectivity, leading-edge driver assistance systems, dynamic engines and above all modern, expressive design. A car that is just as much at home in the city as it is on rough terrain.



    Dr Herbert Diess, Chairman of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management, said at the world premiere in Italy: "The T-Roc sets a new benchmark in the booming SUV segment. With its functionality, dynamic handling and technology, the T-Roc embodies all good Volkswagen qualities. It marks a milestone in our SUV offensive."

    The SUV market is booming – especially in the compact segment. Experts estimate that the segment will almost double in size over the next decade. It is for this reason that Volkswagen is bringing in another attractive model in the compact SUV space, below the Tiguan: the T-Roc. With its package of features it sets new benchmarks and is equally appealing to customers of every age, from young singles to empty nesters. With its sporty modern design, it stands for a new emotive Volkswagen style and thus sets a new course within the model range.

    Snappy, sporty dimensions outside, great functionality inside – that's the new T-Roc. The optionally front-wheel or all-wheel drive all-rounder combines the aplomb of an SUV with the agility of a sporty compact model. And it does indeed rock the segment – in varying ways depending on specification and above all colour combination. For the T-Roc is the first Volkswagen SUV that will be available to order in two-tone paintwork with visually contrasting roof section (including the A-pillars and exterior mirror housings).

    Numerous design elements define the new five-seater's style: at the front it is the wide radiator grille unit with integrated dual headlights and the repositioned light signature, which make the T-Roc unmistakable even at night. The lines of the elongated silhouette are on the other hand characterised by a particularly striking chrome element that runs from the A-pillars across the complete side roof line all the way into the C-pillar and is reminiscent in form of a coupé. The off-road look is enhanced by
    all-round, dark plastic trim, which protects the bodywork around the wheel arches and side sills, as well as the vehicle's front and rear.

    The interior has been adapted to the exterior design. It has a robust SUV feel and modern treatment of surfaces. The interplay between the Active Info Display and the specific infotainment system creates a new, digital and interactive cockpit. Via smartphone and Volkswagen Car Net it is possible to use a wide spectrum of online services and apps and to integrate the telephone and/or media library. Another feature being offered by Volkswagen in the new T-Roc is the "Security & Service" package (including Emergency Service, Automatic Accident Notification and Roadside Assistance).

    The new T-Roc is positioned within the segment below the Tiguan and like the latter and the Atlas/Teramont is based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB). If all five seats are occupied, luggage space when loaded up to the top edge of the rear seat backrests totals 445 litres. The backrests can also be folded down in a 60/40 split, yielding luggage capacity of up to 1,290 litres. Hardly any other SUV in this class offers such a spacious package.

    Even the ‘T-Roc’ base version comes with high-tech systems such as Front Assist area monitoring with City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring, the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System and the lane keeping system Lane Assist. Also part of the base specification are details such as air conditioning, the Composition Colour infotainment system, LED tail light cluster, visual underbody guard (black) and LED daytime running lights in the bumper.

    Volkswagen will be offering the new crossover based on the 'T-Roc' specification version. In addition, two higher lines on a par with each other, 'Sport' and 'Style', are available in parallel for maximum personalisation of the T-Roc. While the T-Roc 'Style' is characterised by exclusive touches such as the interior's decorative panels available in a choice of four colours, the focus in the case of the T-Roc 'Sport' is on sporty features such as the standard sport comfort seats.

    In its market segment, the T-Roc is in a league of its own when it comes to its driver assistance systems. Standard features on all T-Roc vehicles include: the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, the active lane keeping system Lane Assist and the Front Assist area monitoring system with Pedestrian Monitoring and City Emergency Braking. The SUV can optionally be configured with ten further driver assistance systems. These include adaptive cruise control (ACC), Rear View reversing camera, the lane change system including Rear Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Monitor, lane keeping system Lane Assist, Park Assist including manoeuvring brake function, Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist. The T-Roc can be adapted to the driver’s personal preferences via a range of further assistance systems that is exceptionally large for this vehicle class. In addition to adaptive chassis control DCC and progressive steering, these include electric operation of the rear hatch and starting system Keyless Access.

    Like the larger Tiguan, the new T-Roc too is being offered with efficient turbocharged engines: three petrol engines (TSI) and three diesels (TDI). They are being offered partly with front-wheel drive and manual gearbox, partly with front-wheel drive, 4Motion all-wheel drive (including 4Motion Active Control as standard) and the dual clutch gearbox (7-speed DSG). The T-Roc will take its place in the €20,000 class segment (German market). Its market launch begins in Europe this November.

    Volkswagen Group UK Limited is encouraging the switch to its latest generation, lower-emission new cars by launching an attractive scrappage scheme.

    Owners of any diesel vehicle that complies with pre-Euro 51 emissions legislation, and registered before 2010, qualify for the Volkswagen Scrappage Upgrade scheme. They are able to trade-in the vehicle to benefit from incentives – ranging from £1,800 to £6,000 – against the majority of new Volkswagen models (see table below) if the new car is ordered by 31 December 2017. The trade-in vehicle needs to have been owned by the customer for at least six months.

    All new Volkswagen petrol and diesel cars meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standards. Furthermore results of emissions tests by Emissions Analytics and The Consumer Association have current Volkswagen products among the lowest emitters of NOx.3

    Meanwhile, the marque’s range of sophisticated plug-in hybrid and fully electric models lead the EV pack. For example, What Car? this month (September 2017) declares that “the e-Golf succeeds because it works brilliantly as an electric car, yet it doesn’t compromise on practicality, equipment or driving dynamics.”

    Alison Jones, Director of Volkswagen UK, said: “With this new Scrappage Upgrade scheme, there’s never been a better time to step up from an older diesel into one of our new, lower emission range of Volkswagens.

    “And it’s not just buyers of our latest Euro 6 petrol and diesel cars who could benefit,“ she continued. “The incentives offered on our class-leading range of plug-in hybrid and full electric cars are particularly eye-catching.

    “For example, combine our £5,500 offer on the new, longer range, e-Golf with the Government’s OLEV Grant and there’s a huge £10,000 to save. Add to the equation significant whole-life cost savings of running a fully electric vehicle in terms of fuel, BIK tax, Road Fund Licence, Congestion Charge for those driving into London, as well as parking incentives in many towns and cities, and the e-Golf looks like a very attractive proposition.“

    Volkswagen AG has stated that it aims to be the global leader in electric vehicles by 2025. Already today, the Volkswagen brand offers fully electric vehicles with the e-Golf and e-up!, in addition to the Passat GTE and Golf GTE plug-in hybrid models.

    Furthermore, and as part of the framework of Strategy 2025, the brand is working on a comprehensive electric car offensive. Underpinning this is a dedicated electric vehicle structure – the modular electric drive kit (MEB) – which forms the basis of an innovative range of electric vehicles, such as the I.D. and I.D. BUZZ, both of which are already confirmed for production.

    Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has launched an attractive scrappage scheme encouraging the exchange of latest generation, lower-emission new vehicles, in tandem with the removal of older, Euro 1-4 emissions standards vehicles from the UK.

    Owners of diesel vehicles that comply with pre-Euro 5 emissions legislation qualify for the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles scrappage scheme2. They can trade-in their vehicles and benefit from incentives – ranging from £1,000 to £2,000 – against the majority of new Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles vans and passenger carriers (see table below) that they order by 31 December 2017. The trade-in vehicle needs to have been owned by the customer for at least six months.

    All new Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles petrol and diesel models meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standards, currently the most stringent yet.

    The majority of new models can be exchanged on this new-for-old basis, with the exception of Amarok, California and Transporter Sportline.     The efficiency benefits of the latest Audi EU6 engine technology will be available in the UK to drivers of older diesel models registered before 2010 at preferential rates as part of the Audi UK scrappage incentive. Effective immediately, the incentive has been designed to accelerate the proliferation of the latest engine combustion and filtration technologies in the context of the industry-wide pursuit of sustainable emission reductions. Under the terms of the Audi programme all qualifying vehicles will be permanently taken off the road and scrapped.

    When trading in for a new EU6 TFSI petrol, TDI diesel or e-tron plug-in hybrid Audi model customers will receive an exclusive scrappage contribution towards the purchase price of between £2,000 and £8,000 allocated on a sliding scale based on the model category. This replaces any part-exchange value for the vehicle being traded in and is not available in conjunction with any other offers.

    Owners of all diesel-powered passenger cars that comply with EU1 to EU4 emissions legislation and were registered up to and including 31st December 2009 will be able to take advantage of the scrappage incentive. The offer is conditional upon the new model being purchased in the same name as the car being scrapped, and on the owner having been the registered keeper of that car for at least six months.

    The majority of new Audi models can be exchanged on this new-for-old basis, with the exception of Q7 TDI, A8, R8 and RS models. When compared to existing retail offers, the scrappage incentive equates to an additional contribution of £2,500 on average. In most cases, this support will be higher than the current value of the vehicle being traded in. Inclusive of the £2,500 OLEV grant also separately available on the A3 Sportback e-tron, the total contribution for this particular model rises to £7,500.

    The Audi UK scrappage incentive contributions will be redeemable for orders taken up to and including December 31, 2017 for deliveries made by no later than March 31, 2018. Customers can fund their purchases using a finance agreement if preferred, but the offer cannot be combined with any specific supported Audi Finance promotional rate. The incentive contributions will be applied automatically when qualifying cars are exchanged without the need for customers to make separate applications.

    Customers taking advantage of the incentive can have their pick of a wide range of efficiency-focused Audi TFSI and TDI models capable of returning as much as 70.6mpg combined with CO2 emissions from just 97g/km in the NEDC cycle. The petrol-electric hybrid A3 Sportback e-tron and diesel-electric hybrid Q7 e-tron models are notable as particularly attractive efficiency champions with the capability to travel for up to 820 miles without recharging or refuelling, and for up to 34 miles under purely electric power with zero local emissions (Q7 e-tron).
