polish takes a thin layer off? to bring a fresh shiny layer up wax puts a shiny layer on top? i'm sure someone will correct me
yeah, polish cuts the paint, wax seals it and generally buffs and looks after the finish thats there. i just thought of a good way to explain this to a woman! maybe we can get them off there asses and working on the dubs! >joke btw,i know theres plenty lasses out there into there motors< 1/exfoliator. 2/moisturiser.
Been wondering a similar thing. if your paintwork is looking 22 years duller than it was when it was built is it worth doing polish then wax or t-cut polish then wax? I know peeps on here seem to like the autoglym protector stuff, just wanna know if I need to get some t-cut as well and if so which one?
Clay bar is just really sticky and pull the crap out of the paint. More like a cleanser! Technically speaking, a polish is abrasive, whereas a true wax is just a sealant. In the real world though, the words polish, wax, etc. are used interchangably, and most polishes and waxes are combinations of the two!
SO... My car is a bit scratched and chipped here and there. What should I buy/use to get the smaller surface scratches out and get it looking all shiny?
cleanser as a general rule, clay bar if you need one? t-cut - polish - wax. if the paint really needs bringing up then you need to t-cut a once or twice and then polish a few times to bring it up,all depending how bad it is. then wax it,with a polishing every couple of weeks or so. neil.
ps: dont press on hard with t-cut,let the product do the work. its hard enough to use as it is without engraving it into the paint any car i buy,the only things i use on it for the first month or three of ownership are t-cut and a polish with a large amount of cut in it. then move onto a polish with less cut such as autoglym super resin a few times and then the extra gloss protection.
Nice one neil, getting a bit fed up of the washed out old banger look, need to get some of that shine back.
Thanks for the tip! I have never done it before so is there anything I need to be careful of not doing. I want to make it better, not worse The paint is already pretty shiny, not dulled or anything, it's just got lots of little scratches all over it. Shiny Edited by: ChrisUK
Oh well, I bought a T cut all in one jobby, restores, polishes and waxes, all for 8.99 Really good results off it, very pleased. All the little scratches around where the door handles are, and the little scratches on the wings etc, gone And SHINY!
