I need to cut off a rusty exhust downpipe bolt and i cant get anything in to remove it, so I was thinking about getting a dremel, but theres loads of cheap ones about are they any good or is it worth buying a proper one?

    Cheers

My dremel has been a life saver, wouldnt have got my driver zaust manifold off, my siezed zaust clamp, buggered arb drop link, or towbar rear bumper off without it!

Plus it was handy to get my bathroom sink installed

yeah you should have seen the way they bodged it on, instead if welding captive nuts to it as per oem, instead they drilled 4 holes in the boot floor and used bloody long bolts with nuts on the end [:x]
Course the nuts siezed up so I had to dremel em off. Oh what fun!

saying that im on my 3rd "real" dremel in 4 years as ive burnt out 2 hehe but they have a 2 year warranty on (i think) so they replaced it free of charge both times :)

my dad has a minicraft/proxxon dremel-alike and it beats the crap out of the dremel, its now 7 years old and the bearings are good as new. probly about the same price as a dremel tho so your not really saving anything.

My B and Q one blew up. Sparks out the vent and everything...Also **** my pants!

Got a demmel one for my birthday. Its great!

Is it me or does it take ages to cut stuff with it?

Just 1mm thick ally with a standard cut off disk takes years! Also the disks break. Flys off into 1000 bits! Am i not doing it right?[:s]

    Ohh great!

Thinking about it. I had a carbon fibre disk once. It worked pretty well but i used it so much it ended up to small to use:lol:

    Out of here then:

those 3 pots with the green lids are full of cutoff discs of the grey sort

then just off center to the left is a grey circle- the top one is a diamond edged cutting disc, and underneath that are about 10 fiber reinforced ones, you can jsut make out the square pattern caused by the fibers. :)

Last time I did anything like this I used a Snap On air powered Die Grinder - much better than a Dremmel...

yea i can imagine a snap-on air grinder is a wicked tool

dremels are handy tho if you havent got room or need for a compressor and only need to cut one bolt off
