Hi all, this may seem like a stupid question, but i have just bought some grooved brake discs but have no idea which way the grooves are supposed to go.and there is no instructions with them.any help appreciated cheers pete
Now this a debate ive had with a scooby driver on a old scooby 95 the set he bought didnt say which way his went He decided on the grooves running anti clockways But a week later i fitted some ebc ones to a later scooby 03 which stated on its box left and right meaning his ran clockwise as in towards the front. He has since tuned his scooby and is still happy with his with next to no noise and no fade
The grooves should allow the brake pad debris to get away from the disk when they're rotating forwards, so, if you're looking at the driver's side of the car, the grooves should be going outwards clockwise, if that makes sense. Pic of the front disks on my R32 when they were first fitted. This is the driver's side front. and driver's side rear. HTH
cheers for advise.been looking into it and different manufacturers say different having pros and cons. This is what i found regarding brembo, which means at the top of the disc the grooves point towards the front of the car.this is how i fitted mine but wasnt sure.but reading this is it is true,i'm getting a lot of noise at times like a groaning Grooved Discs Grooved discs usually feature between 6 and 40 grooves machined into the casting. The recommended orientation of the grooves in the disc relative to the direction of travel differs between manufacturers. Brembo recommend that the outer edge of the groove strike the pad surface first as per the diagram. Advantage Increases available friction by cutting into pad surface Advantage Provides fresh pad material constantly, eliminating glazing Advantage Provides escape path for out-gassing generated under braking Disadvantage Increases brake operating noise
