    hi there

ill be due front discs and pads in the next few months. my calipers are ancient and cant be in the best condition still.

anyone know where i can get new calipers on an exchange basis etc? im on 280mm brakes, so my calipers are the same as mk2 256mm, 280mm type

these are only for 239mm brakes, the slider kit you need is a VAG only item 443 698 470
comes with 2x rubber boots, grease and 2 caliper bolts :)

edit: you can refurb your calipers yourself, get a seal kit from VAG:
    431 698 471 B

as long as the piston is smooth and rust free its all good.

refurbing them is easy, pop the pistons out with a tyre inflater on the hoses and lube the new seals with brake fluid, takes about 10mins

i think a little play is ok, once packed with grease it should be reet. Are your brakes binding or anything at the moment?

I'd recommend you ditch them and go for a later mk3 288mm set up better brake for less .

hmm, all the kit has is boots , grease n bolts so it wont help if ya sliders are shafted :(
the rear caliper carrier is the same on most vag models so shouldnt be hard to get some from zee scrappy

    make sure its 280mm girling 54s you're asking about, not 256mm girling 54 ;)

If theres play on the sliders the bore of the carrier will be worn. Replacing just the calipier won't cure it. [ unless you get the carriers with the calipers ]
