Well after it sitting in the garage for nearly 4 years, I push it out side today and started to strip it ready to go to the body shop.
First up i had a look at the sills.

    This is the worst side.
Next i had already removed the screen over a year ago, so i cleaned off the bonding to have a better look at the damage.

Its not looking to good and VAG have made the scuttle panel obsolete[:^(] so if any body has one going spare I would be interested in it.
Next I took out the rear side windows and i still can't believe VAG mounted those stupid clips to hold the trim panel. Both side have rusted away.

So all i need to do now is remove the dash and the remaining carpet and its off to the body shop

About time to. Rust doesnt look any worse than the last time I saw it. Worthwhile doing it, maybe just have to get rid of some of the others to get properly motivated. Still might be interested in the Passat as Im not off across the water now although there is a local Mk5 4motion Tdi that looks ok.

    Chris, it is.

Oh yes the good old Six Pack feature

Well the bell housing is actually one of two that a certain Mr Gemini took back from Hanover. It it a proper pre production sand casting item.
The other housing went on the Silver VR rallye Jim Cotton built back in the day..

do all rallye's suffer this bad with corrosion? you'd think being so expensive new that they would be better built than a normal mk2, always thought one day i'd own one but if they rust this badly I might have to reconsider!

    wiked project.

Aalmost all mk2s have the problem with rust on the winscreen frame and the rear windows but rallyes have the extra sill problem.

Its that horrible metal clip on the rear side windows that starts the rust off:lol:

I dare you to acid dip the shell!

Productive morning, managed to get the dash and carpet out..

How much of a pain is it to remove the clove box on a LHD MK2 had to loosen of the dash to get out, there was lots of bad langauge.....
Its now ready to go [:D]

The plastic bag contains the 2 mile of wiring and control modules for the cat 1 alarm.
Couldn't believe the amount of stuff that was hidden behind the center consul..

It took a day and a half to do, never taken a MK2 apart before.
The MK3 is a lot easier to work on ...
