This has to be one of the longest builds of all time! I have owned the car since 1989 as a standard 1.6 gti, one owner from new. I then buggered about with it as you do with a bbs bodykit and in 1992 a 2 litre 16v engine with ported head and schrick cams. That was quite cutting edge then. Since 1996 it has been on and off the road with various 16v turbo engines, non particularly sucessfully. A couple of years ago I bought a non sunroof shell and started a ground up build. The basic spec is as follows Acid dipped non sunroof shell Fully seam welded with custom cages cage Four wheel drive conversion New 16v turbo engine Arias forged pistons Carillo rods 20v block 2 litre balanced crank Modified head ( flow bench tested Supertech valves, lifters and retainers Garret GT2540 r roller bearing turbo on tubular manifold Modified cosworth plenum RS 500 size throttle body Custom inlet manifold Radtec radiator and intercooler Audi S3 gearbox and rear diff Still a way to go before finished.
Was going to lift up the arches to get it running lower although I am fitting standard black spats as I like the stock look. Over next winter, I may go down the berg route although it loses the suprise element then as a standardish 30 year old golf shouldnt go like I hope it will!
Good to see this at last Mike! Don't forget to put a tax disc in it! Tell us about the rear diff assy and the suspension
It is a TT dash narrowed by probably 30mm each side. I am going to get it flocked, hopefully by the chap on here. Back end is Lotus elise bed housing a haldex diff with manual control. It also has GT spec Exige rear hubs, bell mounted discs and some tasty ally calipers.
Back end has these hubs, with these AP discs and these struts all round I texted Simon a photo the other day... or tried to!
I am too fat to fit in it now anyway. It was alright for a 25 year old when it first went off the road!
I'm a very athletic build as you know mate and also a top dog at setting lap times, as you know, Mike. Don't let anyone bull sh*t you and lead you down/up the garden path
