Since getting married in '06, the mk1 (or my bit on the side as my wife calls it) has taken a back seat and gone into hibernation. However, this has allowed me to tackle the car with a bit more care and attention taking my time over renovation and modifications. Quite a lot has changed with some much lager leaps being taken in the cars development. I have tried to carry out as much work as possible in my garage with mates with only extreme specialist work being carried out by tradesmen.

    New spec now stands at:

    - Mk1 Driver shell with strengthened steering mounts converted to full gti running gear, fuel system and late wiring
    - Ground control adjustable spherical top mounts
    - H&R Coilovers rebuilt by H&R to custom spring rates. Replaced with KW-V3's.
    - Neuspeed 22mm front arb with rosejointed ends
    - ABD solid 28mm rear arb
    - BRM Motorsport front lower brace
    - Mk2 16v Rear disc conversion with scirocco 16v handbrake cables
    - 280mm G60 front discs G60 calipers and Epytec adaptors
    - Mk2 servo with 22mm master cylinder
    - Custom widened front wishbones
    - Compbrake adjustable rosejointed track rod ends
    - PWM Ball joint extenders
    - ABF 2.0 16v Engine block
    - Standard ABF head & cams.
    - Megasquirt MS-1 with Squirt'n'Spark Extra
    - Supersprint 4-2-1 exhaust manifold & Group A 60mm exhaust system
    - FD/2Y code gearbox ratios with 4.25 final drive and Quaiffe diff.
    - 6 paddle ceramic clutch. Now OE LUK clutch
    - Lightened flywheel
    - Polybushed where applicable
    - 4 point Willians 4" harness with Aero spec clasp
    - Corbeau Carbon fibre/kevlar composite race seat
    - Fully welded 8 point Custom Cages roll cage.

Here is the car before hibernation:

Strengthened steering mounting. Note the L-beam welded in between the mounts:

GC top mounts in place. These require the raised edge on the top of the strut towers to be removed:

    Work in progress:

    Gearbox bits everywhere:

    ABF waiting transplant:

    Headwork in progress:

Compbrake rod ends and ball joint extenders (not fitted yet). The rod ends are longer than mk1 stuff but require the taper to be drilled out of the hub carriers.

Widened wishbones with ARB brackets in place:

6 Paddle ceramic clutch disc from Bildon Racing:

    Stance anyone?

BMW BBS alloys just fit. [:s]. 7x15 et 24 fitted with 195-45-15's:

With plastic GTi arches in place:

280mm G60 brake disc in place with Calibra carrier in place:

    Getting there slowly:

There is still some work to go with the head off at the skimmers at the mo and more bits n pieces to clean and paint before fitting along with engine ancillaries to fit before I fire it up and get it road legal. :)

Thanks for all the positive comments folks. A lot of you have been the source of inspiration with my own project.

Vick, thought married life had swept you off the scene! Lol. Pop over with your car when you get a chance. I'd like to try on one of your alloys on my car to check clearances.
