I recently bought a set of 7 x 15" BBS RA Wheels. The wheel bolts I have are not long enough, does anyone know the correct size bolt and any recommendations on where to buy them? Cheers
early steely bolts were shorter, the ones you need are m12x1.5x23.5. this is assuming they're gen VAG RAs and not beemer ones
If they are 7 x 15 they will be beemer ones and probably need longer taper seated bolts as opposed to the radius head vw type. Not sure on the exact length needed though to be honest. Cheers D
Thanks all. They are Beemer ones as they're tapered. I measured a thread depth of 23mm through the wheel, is it normal to add 10mm to secure to hub? Cheers
Hello, I just bought a set of 15" BBS RA (6" wide ET35) with OEM number: 165601025. They should be the original VW Golf GTI mk2 wheels according to the serial or? Anyway it feels very weird to tighten them up with the normal radius/ball seated bolts. I think they should be tapered seated bolts, is this possible? :S
http://www.oemepc.com/vw/part_singl...601/subcategory/107010/part_id/3688033/lang/e The wheel part number checks out OK, I don`t recall a tapered seat bolt though ... ?
Thanks for the quick reply! When I tighten the bolts it feels like the bolts stop quite suddenly and it's a full stop. Could it be just a difference between a normal steel wheel compared to the aluminium wheel? The problem is that even though the bolts are tightened well, the wheel has a tiny tiny bit of play. Could be the bearing though... I will try it with the steel wheel and if it has the same play, I'll check the wheel nut.
You could have corrosion in the thread on the hub. Run you're bolt down the thread with no wheel on to see if there is a stoppage. If there is try running a tap through it to clear it out. Then retry the bolt to make sure it's clear.
yeah those should have a ball seat, if you're worried squish some bluetac in the hole see what shape it is. but regardless of the taper even with the wrong bolts in the wheel shouldnt have any play once they are tight so it suggests as above issue with the thread in the hub
