I had this problem once a long time ago, I took it into a garage and they told me that the car was suffering from nonvaginitus. It appears I parked too close to a peugeot when I was at Asda and when they opened their door it touched my door handle and my car caught a disease. Vw sell a cream that you rub on the affected area over a week and it will be ok again.

I didn't want to let on exactly how the mech works on a public forum but I guess there's not much harm in it. If anyones interested I could take some pictures and write something up?
