Just opinion really... some say polys dont work and some say they do... Im in the process of replacing my bushes and have choosen the following:- Rear axle bushes - Gen VW about 37 each Front wish bone pivot - Meyle Audi TT about 8 each from GSF Wish bone bushes - Gen VW 5 each Inner ABR bushes - powerflex 27 pair Outter ABR bushes - Delpin (sadly only the 13mm bolt not the better 19mm)
I asked the same question at a local meet last night, 2 people have just fitted polybush and said they are great
You didn't ask me, I fitted Bugpack front wishbone bushes & can honestly say that they have done exactly bugger all. Dan1987 said the same thing about the powerflex ones he fitted
Great advice. New standard stuff is more than adequate. The TT front pivot bush is a nice touch too, it's more solid and stops the caster from changing so much..
I had my fair share of advice from Rubjonny on this...so its all down to him! I have a totally standard car, so didnt really need anything upgraded
Fair enough. One thing missing from the list above is subframe bushes, What do people think are best for that?
AAHHHHH!!! CR*P! I forgot these But they didnt fail the mot. Will have a look at them, see what condition they are in. Luckily i haven't refitted the subframe yet
I have powerflex 'yellows' with a solid front mount in my front subframe (16v race car).. No mental vibrations. I'd recommend that combo..
Is yellow the softest powerflex do and can you get those for the rear beam mounts? I only seem to see purple ones advertised which i beleive are harder? I have the poly sport ones off ebay (mattyzx) and find on my standard car the vibration is noticeable compared to stock. Interestingly though i didnt notice this on my old car with what i thought were the same bushes from rally design?! Cheers Dan
Yellow is the softest they offer yes, but the amount of movement they actually go through is very minimal once the bolts are done up! Rear beam mounts, I run Powerflex purples.. If it was for a road car i'd buy standard items though. Comfort isnt a priority for racing! - Not that they make things vibrate at all saying that...
the rear wishbone bushes id only fit TT or sperical from now on. i had some rallyedesign yellows which were fine at first but after a year or so had gone oval shaped around the middle sleeves. this is due to the poly not allowing the wishbone to move how it wants to, eventually the poly lets go. TT bushes are a compromise as they're rubber so flex how they need to, but dont have the voids in like mk2 bushes do. rear beam polys will have the same issue, but how much so i guess depends on the make/hardness and how its driven. you'll find plenty on here who have polys and find them ok but it would be interesting to see how long each type last before they start to loosen up around the pins. trouble is its not so easy to see without having the beam off. again personally id only fit genuine vw rears or sphericals
im coming round to this way of thinking as well john iv just fitted some tt/r32 ones to some r32 wishbones i got for the 4motion and they are better than you would think iv not had a problem with the polys iv fitted but dont like how they sit if not sat straight to my mind the tt ones are better will post some pictures of the one i cut up to show why i think this
I would suspect the subframe bushes there will change Bugger all as I don't think any suspension loads are carried by the front subframe, it's only there to support the engine
Glad I found this thread. Need to change the front lower wishbone bushes on my car. So it seems Genuine VW is best?
for the front ones poly ok, fir the big rear ones id go audi tt, 8N0 407 181 B part number. lemforder ones available from gsf which are oem quality, or here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pair-Wish...-OEM-VW-Golf-Mk4-R32-Audi-TT-S3-/400268974800
I fitted a polly to the mk2 but i changed the wheels at the same time and she felt alot nicer on the road! Prob had more to do with the wheels tbh but havent noticed any bad vibration/feedback tru the steering wheel
