What a fantastic car this once was, Unfortunately the previous owner passed away and his mum to revenge on the poor car. It was parked in a garden collecting wood shavings when i first saw the car, tyres flat and the BBS RM wheels corroding with the water seeping under the lacquer, the white gloss was even peeling off the roof with the sun and rain beating down on it for the last 18 months. I was told a year before that it may be for sale but no answer was had to a price!
Then last year I was contacted as they knew i was interested and a deal was struck, partially due to them knowing it was going to be restored to its former glory if not better ( I hope), The doorbell had been rung on many occassions by people who wanted to break it for spares or build it as a track car or even run it in to the local scrappy,But now it was mine!

this is how it arrived on a tow rope, due to fuel pumps not working

The golf came with a folder of receipts, a folder of dealer brochures, and heaps of spares, some of which where these

I will add more pics as i tell the story, enough for the minute ;)

That day i thought id try to see if i could remove the paint, first attempt was with thinners but was making a complete mess so i tried some petrol, this worked but required lots of elbow grease

It inspired me somewhat but still lots to do!!

How much better does it look, but there were still bits i wasn`t happy with as it had been painted in various places and i went through with the polisher as you can see from the pics, so i then made my mind up that the whole would get a fresh coat of paint

the wing aerial hole had a bung in it and it had an aerial on the roof so i decided to weld the hole up for a cleaner look

i cut a circle out so i could weld it into the wing, i tacked a bit of mig wire on so i could hold it in situ when welding in place

I then dressed the weld, will just need a light skim of filler

Nice to see that you are bringing back to its former glory

And sad news for the previous owner and his Mum. :( As Matt said above, people do show there grief in different way, and with her she took it out on something which was close to him, which can be expected.

Looks like a nice selection of parts came with the car though. Will be great to see it finished, so will be watching with interest

Hopefully this week i should get the new fuel pumps in the post, as the last ones i ordered from gsf packed up after a day, so i ordered genuine bosch pumps, I need to test injectors as one was blocked but cant check the rest till new pumps arrive

This is inspiring to read and it is just fantastic to see a car being brought back to life.

When you succeed with the drooping roof cloth please let me know what you used to get it to stay up - I have the same problem.

    Keep up the good work

Please do, I have a soft for Tornado Red Mk2 16V's as I had one up until 2000 and if circumstances would have allowed I would never have sold it - what a car.
