I thought it was about time i should share my build!

    First About me!

My first car was a polo witch started my love for VW's easy to work on with a great online community!

This was one of my first A polo GT

Back in 2007ish i joined the clubgti meet in Cheddar Gorge my home town BTW some may remember!

My last Polo witch i Installed a G40 lump and full safety devices cage and had a full PPP exhaust system and many more mods fast little car!

Until one day i wasn't using my G40 at the time so to help my mate out I lent him my supercharger and Ecu and a few other bits to get his running! But then this happened!

This was done by my mates jealous girlfriends EX! yes that's my supercharger FULLY Ported and low millage destroyed and ECU and all the little things i used from mine to get his running!

At the time superchargers were a lot of money at the time and no one had a ECU for sale and i was SKINT and out of a job! So had to sale the many rare bits i had gathered other the years to live and fund other projects.

Iv had a 16v kr Corrado and a 16V kr Mk1 Caddy and many none VW's Too!

But brought this Mk1 Polo Derby back a couple of years ago and this is what i have done up to now!

Its was in a bad state when i got it but it was CHEAP!
    Delivery!

    New Home!

Next was to get the engine running!

Engine now running not bad for a car that's been sat a few years! had to move the car around as the exhaust was pointing strait at the front door to my house!

Next was to find out what was needed for MOT also buying as many bits as i could find!

New used Early Grill and new Lights!

Front end rust cut out new metal shaped and welded in place!

    WHY WHY WHY

Not going to bore you with repair photo's if you want to see more details check out my clubpolo or mk1 polo forum build threads!

    NOW FOR THE FUN STUFF!

My Plan is to use golf mk1 arches to replace the smaller Polo arches! they are a couple of inches wider and work better with a 15inch wheel better stance and looks!

    Custom porsche dials!

    New engine!

Also won some CBR 600 carbs off ebay!

Made a manifold for the Carbs on to the AFH engine! sorry no build pictures didn't have my phone with me!

    Got a Kamei front splitter!

Next was time to start doing the front arches im using two MK1 Golf wings for the arches!

First had to work out how they would fit! all ready cut the arch out of the golf Wing and placed on the derby!

    standard other side!

Now time to weld the Golf arch to the polo wing! I have pictures

    Both wings done!

    On the car

will need to work on the way the kamie splitter fits but happy day!

Got some gas so was able to get most of the right inner arch done its not fully seam welded as ran out of gas again not happy! o

Would use the proper 3 phase mig with proper gas but its in a different part of the unit and not ideal for sheet metal!

will just have to get more gas stupid disposable bottles!

Better to buy an adaptor hose for the regulator on your big bottle

Its not my workshop its my mates dads business they make massive electric gates and the welders are all in the back of the other workshop blocked currently by big jobs! were lucky to get to use it at all its ok for smaller jobs.

I don't know why the new gas went so fast i only did a bit of tacking on that one arch? i seam welded two arches and did a load of sill repairs and patch repairs with my other gas cylinder before it ran out!

am guessing those were original mk1 wings that you have butchered beautifully.........!"$"!!!!!

well done, thanks for sharing, looks ace.

my mate lost all his gas the other day, found the problem when his new bottle arrived (we think) .....had to wind in the regulator really really tight to stop the leak.

i always turn my gas off in between welds etc. even if i am only stopping for a few minutes. Often forget to turn it back on:o

unsure about your setup but it is useful to use a flowmeter to get a nice level of gas going, too much is not helping the weld or the pockets!

    these are just my opinions!!!!

Removed the rear panel to get it to sit right will need some work!

    also got some new wheels!

They are ford 15 x 8 superlites 10 spokes very rare!

The rears are a ok fit but the front arches will need extending about 1 and 1/2 inches! Will extend the rear the same!

Can't wait to see it on the new wheels.

How are you fitting the ford wheels to it?

Sadly I have sold the wheels now the rears would of been easy to fit by redrilling the rear drums, but the front hubs would of required to much work and adaptors wouldn't work because of the negative offset was way to much!

Still love the look of the 15 superlites but will have to find a set with a better offset! Found a couple of company's that do the same style for the retro jap market but pricey!
