    Hi all,

My car has had an engine transplant many years ago by a previous owner. I've just insured it however I have to declare all mods and they want me to be super detailed..

I know the engine is an APX from a TT 225, however the insurer wants to know the year of car this came out of, so I guess the only way I can do this is look for the engine serial number and give VW a call?

Only issue is that I can't find it anywhere, I know it's usually printed on a sticker on the cambelt cover however this is not present. Any ideas?

Also need the gearbox serial number - It's an 02A from a Mk4 GTI and that's all i know!

    Thanks

The engine number is stamped where the engine meets the gearbox
If you get it one of us with etka can give you a year
I could do it or John and Eddie also

APX is a 2000 MY engine as fitted to the TT only. Not sure why the insurance wants to know more than this.

    Gearbox code usual place here

Nor me but we all know how slippery they can be so just trying to be as thorough as possible. Thanks for the reassurance, I had to complete the form by yesterday and I'd put down the donor model year as 2000.

Looking at the gearbox diagram you've posted; is that the serial number of the box? So this number is completely different to the gearbox code (eg. 02A)?

    Thanks

02A is just the type of gearbox the picture above is the code and number
Ie AYG is the code and the number after it is the manufacture number it's the same as a engine number if you like

etka it give you a range of for when they are used so you should be able to get it to a year and month or between certain dates

I am also trying to identify my serial so that I can update my V5C. I bought the engine new and I have a little bag with stickers in (see photo). Would I be correct in thinking my engine number is BAM058377?

I realised that BAM was the engine code but a bloke at Skoda told me the engine number was nine digits...
