Morning guys and gals, I'm considering building my own roll cage to msa /fia regs. I see the minimum steel type they req is cold drawn steel with a minimum strength yield of 350 N/mm2, I can get some quality cold formed steel tube s355 grade with a yield of 355 N/mm2.... a high strength constructional / mechanical tubing. I see it like this, they are asking for strength and this cfs is stronger than there minimum standard. Please discuss
The dimensions are also critical, it`s not just the strength. The Blue Book specifies tube OD and thicknesses, if you go away from that you aren`t complying. If you aren`t competing the question is, does it really matter ? But for the minimal price difference I always buy the CDS tube in the dimensions specified by the MSA
What an odd question or statement.....however you meant. If I'm interested in building a complying roll cage, it's probably because I'm interested in competing in a msa/ fia ruled sport.
I was meaning that if the tube is strong enough and above the specs, the o/d and i/d isn`t an issue if it`s oversized. eg, if the tube should be 44.45mm x 2.64mm but your supplier has 45mm x 2.75mm then that would be suitable but not listed in the Blue Book. Make sense ?
The Mandatory pieces can be 45mm x 2.5mm or 50mm x2 mm Optional can be 38mm x 2.5mm or 40mm x 2mm More details and diagrams in the Blue Book Section K
Thanks nige, what are the mandatory items..I can't then listed. Oh, I've just found a stockist of reasonably priced cds tube, but they're out of stock for another 4 weeks
