Which Disposable Gloves? - Latex / Nitrile / Vinyl

    Looking for some advice on which tyoe of glove to use when doing light maintenance on your engine at home.
    There seems to be 3 main ones out there - latez, nitrile and vinyl.

    Which one os best suited to car work. Does one offer better protection against oil, petrol...
    Latex are easy to pick up - but are they the ebst choice for this kind of job?

    I use either Tiger Grip or Alligator gloves.
    Nitrile. Longer lasting, better fitting.

    I use the ones from TPS at home, draper at work and then whatever comes from my dad's work when he gives me them. Draper ones are a terrible fit, medium is way to small, large is huge and rips in seconds.

    TPS and dad's ones, medium suits perfectly, long lasting. Nitrile for them all. Hate the feel of latex and vinyl gloves.

    Nitrile (green ones: 8 a box) , some synth oils rot the cheaper ones

    Green are usually Alligator, orange usually tiger grip.

    I bought 24 pack of cheap ebay grey nitrile 6 years ago, still have plenty left, do the job grand. cheap enough you dont really have to bother about how long they last. keeps your hands a little warmer as they're fabricy underneath. only issue is oil can get in the backs of the fingers so if you're doing summat proper messy put some latex gloves or whatever underneath if you're bothered:

    I got some black nitrile ones from ebay, nice and strong so you dont rip them on the first thing you touch.

    hey mat-mk3,
    consenus seems to be for nitrile. Is black the best colour seeing as they will be getting covered in oil and grease?
    They are available in colours black and blue.

    I wish they did them it pink coz they'd look pretty. Pink is the best colour ;)

    What does it matter what colour they are !
    although they say black's slimming if you have sausage fingers and with blue you can see how dirty they are (which is good).

    I only use Ansell TouchNTuff :thumbup:

    They are the best I`ve used and very resistant to tearing. Available on ebay in various sizes.

    black may be a sexy colour but I like to see the filth so i dont rub my face in it, so blue (or pink! ) works for me. Did see my mate wearing orange one a while back ?
    what i wonder about is if these are harming wildlife once they are dumped.

    Apparently nitrile are better for garage work. They have better puncture resistence and they're more durable than latex.

    There's a type i hadn't even considered before now - vinyl. Apparently very cheap.

    Nitrile ;) on top of low tear and abrasion resistance latex degrades\disintegrates very quickly after contact with petrol.

    Good shout on the TouchNTuff Nige I use Ansell HyFlex 11-618 & 11-840 for cleaner jobs, but hadn't thought about nitriles from them.

    Last year I noticed the Mercedes F1 team using the 618 & 840 (depending on the side of the garage) to fit the wheels in the qualifying sessions. Clearly they must of taken note from my 618'd in queue front wheel swap at Curby in 2015 lol
