So I've found another A3 8L 1.8T, but this one has only been off road 2 months and is a run out 03.

It seems to run static ok, but has frequently lit the EML and lately EPC. The DIS unfortunately unreadable.

    4 Faults Found:
17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)
    P1297 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
    17925 - Main Relay (J271): Electrical Malfunction
    P1517 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17545 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich
    P1137 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

Not much recent service history, but the oil didn't smell to bad and the top end is quiet at 90C compared the the 150K motor I looked at before.

Not too concerned about the Pressure Drop, but the Fuel Trim: System too Rich is a bit of a concern.

Search results better this morning with the right terms.

It could all be simple as the dipstick tube is loose and can be pulled up. The air filters must be over due along with the oil, but it could be expensive also.

Right I guess this is the crux of the matter. How likely is it to pass the emissions with this:

17545 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich
    P1137 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

It is an alleged low mileage engine. No sign or smell of significant over fuelling at the exhaust or hunting.

This might be a go again. As I've read these fault codes are associated with limp mode. Is it possible to have them without limp mode?

17705 - Pressure Drop between Turbo and Throttle Valve (check D.V.!)
    P1297 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
17545 - Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (Add): System too Rich
    P1137 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

    Cheers.

Dump Valve is fubared or there is a leak in the charge pipe such that the system cannot achieve desired load and you might find your Lambda control is at -25 or attempting to pull fuel put at the limit, due to a poor FPR or lack of air measurement from the MAF.

Well I've finally entered the turbo era. I should be picking this up tomorrow if all goes well.

Brought this home earlier today. EPC light on all the way. It threw up a throttle pedal implausible at home when scanned, but it seems that can be a red herring.

If the car is mapped, the 17705 code quite often comes up. You can spend ages checking leaks but it's a glitch in the map. Most decent 1.8t mappers know about it and remove it.
I'd have the car smoke tested and if no leaks, you'll need someone to remove the code

Cheers, the history is unknown. I'm off most of the week now so I can give it a through testing. 1st job fill up with proper fuel after a bit of sanitising lol

This definitely sounds like a boost leak. I've put a new air filter in it cleared the fault codes and I'll see what comes back when I go to pick up the rest of the service parts this morning. I should have a new dipstick tube by tomorrow as well.
