As I said before, stay away from 1.8t starter motor, they get noisy! You have bronze bush, get 02a starter motor, years of trouble free service.

Thanks again Darren, I'm hoping to have an 02a starter sourced.

Depends on the box, if it has a bronze bushing in the housing.

Only if you remove the starter.

I found a front mount in the shed 1H0 199 273A. Mk3 2.0 AFAIK. Will this work as my 02J front mount, the part number being like the one RJ quoted 357199273.

Possibly I'll need to cut off the two captive nuts?[IMG][IMG][IMG]

The MK3 brackets are no good on a mk2 subframe, they push the engine upwards and back as the mount sits at a different angle in the mk3 front carrier.

you either need the g60/corrado/passat 4 cylinder 02a one with the part number I mention along with a matching g60/corrado/passat 4 cylinder 02a rear bracket or get a mk2 020 front bracket and modify it the way Darren describes keeping the mk2 020 rear :)

reason you need the front and rear type to match is since the rear 02a type bracket bracket is longer, the front 02a type bracket is shorter by the same amount

I got a pair of brackets off of a 16v Corrado at the weekend, and a starter motor so hopefully I am sorted.

Alternatively, you can 020 front mounts with modifications. It does not have to be early '31' Passat or Corrado parts

    I made mine Tris.

I run the reverse light too.

You need to sometimes think outside the box!

thats expensive aftermarket version of the wee toledo abf type bracket shown in the guide thread. gives you the idea of what you need to do anyway :)

I did wonder why heritage wouldnt let you buy the part from classic parts any more. well now we know...

    Both assume old 02A gearbox.

None cater for the position of the reverse switch on the newer 02J tower.

I have run both types in the past.

So you make your own for an 02J/02S or an 02A housing with a late 02J shift tower.
