Anyone know whether anyone produces these. I suspect not as all the ones on auction sites are ridiculous prices.
How have you got over the problem without submitting to these demands?

Time to restart this one. Does anyone have a known source for a replacement. I've seen a company called RD Plastics do one, so I am wondering has anyone bought one of these
    All suggestions welcome

Yep I got one. Expensive but excellent. Much stronger than the rubbish vw one. I got mine from a seller called GTI-Line13 on eBay. Having looked for a decent genuine one for about 10 years I was very pleased to get one that was even better than vw

Yes that’s right I tried to check as well for you. No luck. Might be worth messaging him to see if he’s getting more? Sorry if this very obvious!

I wonder how you would go about making one? Take a mould and then make the actual with resin perhaps? Fibreglass would be too thick and lumpy. More research needed methinks.

There’s a product called worbla. Thermoplastic sheets. Available on Amazon. Used for making theatrical costumes apparently. I bought a roll before I found the eBay item so never used it.

I just read all about Worbla and it seeming like the perfect solution…….until……I got to the bit where it said you can’t leave it in a hot car. That could mean that once formed to the shape of the boot edge it would then disform on a hot sunny day :(
I’m glad you mentioned it though as I had never heard of it and it seems like I might be able to use it in some of my model making

I reckon down in the hatch away from direct sunlight it would okay

I'm interested! Not hugely bothered about cost - as long as it's decent and better than the OEM ones :)

Been thinking a bit about this today - would a thick vinyl sticker (similar to that around rear windscreen on GTi models) be a crazy idea? Not sure how well it would work around the shape of the metal, and if it would protect the paint, but might do if it's thick enough?

I think that's a great idea.. unfortunately for me I am trying to put the car back to as original as possible. Certainly worth thinking about
