Ok moving on from black vs chrome debate, I needed replace the orange plastic dipstick tube. It's arrived but doesn't seem to want to 'clip' on. I've tried a fair bit of force already but no joy. Any tips out there? On 1.8t you use a piece of wood to spread the load and press down hard...
well I've got a few GTI sales brochure scans they all have black badges, and a google image search for 1 in 10 million they're all black too. but then again, how many are original now with the dipstick guide, twist while you push. a bit of lube on the end may help you get it in as they say. if its a pattern one it might not be quite the same dimensions as original bit it will go on eventually. maybe try dipping the end in hot water first to soften, wipe dry before you insert, lube and push
Just trying to gauge interest: I may be able to get mk2 Golf undertrays very a very reasonable price. Anyone interested?
Today my stock exhaust system arrived. Probably going to be another big mistake. Observe the packaging for a start: View attachment 7230 View attachment 7231 Apparently plain celotape is good enough to hold a box of this weight together. As a result of the hole a few clamps have fallen out...
Turns out it's not all bad in the end. New-old exhaust in situ: View attachment 7252 View attachment 7254 It looks nice and shiny but the truth is the bends are out. View attachment 7257 View attachment 7288 New system on: View attachment 7259 View attachment 7262 View attachment 7289 The fitter had to find replacement clamps etc as a pack had fallen out of the box but it sounds just like I remember a Mk2 Golf GTI 8v should sound. I'm much happier now.
^this worked a treat. So my main beams only work on the passenger side. I appear to have a broken wire here on the drivers side: View attachment 7290 Any ideas? Looks like an earth.
Looking good man. I would stick with that system you have on there And I totally misunderstood the badge debate lol last time I come on here drunken lol
This morning I performed an oil and filter change. The filter put up a hell of a fight. It had for sure been over tightened. But once off it was smooth sailing. View attachment 7350 View attachment 7351 View attachment 7352 View attachment 7353 As the car had been overfilled by the previous owner I was hoping a change would do something about the clattery noise but it didnt. I'm hopeful it's just a sticky lifter but I'm afraid it may be a lot more...
Cheers chap. Today I drove her to work. Annoying that she is so down on power (haven't yet had a chance to time her up) but was nice to get some miles under my belt I hate the suspension. Need to work out what's going on there.
It's either not been set up properly e.g. the pre load, not installed properly or just plain rubbish. It's rock solid. Like when my Mini Clubman front suspension collapsed rock solid. I've no experience with lowered coil overs so don't know where to start.
Well if they're cheap coilovers they will be a horrible ride. I had some and they were horrible. I've got Koni adjustable shocks with eibach springs now, whilst a bit stiff it still provides a decent ride.
