Well I have been quietly beavering away on this, mostly with wiring. but things have been hampered by all the loom work I have booked in, plus birth of my first born

anyway, things have to get worse before they can get better as they say! first off after taking out the old rotten insulation I used it to create templates to cut out of the new stuff I ordered

to replace the bitumen backed stuff:
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282682047137

to replace the non-backed bits such as under dash and under the bitumin stuff:
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/263247246167

    to do boot carpet:
    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302341884709

I ended up spending 76 quid and still have a fair bit left over:

Then after stripping everything out I gave the shell a good scrub to remove 23 years of dirt and scraped off as much of the old patches of insulation as I could:
    gti55.jpg

I've put all the new insulation in now but forgot to take a pic, will do so later on as the carpets need to come back out again since the rear one still has some paint on it and the front pad for the bulkhead wont go in until after the heater box is removed, and I cant do that till my late mk4 type straight heater matrix couplings get here from my Audi contact (you know who you are slacker)

The engine and lighting looms are done, wrapped and refitted but I forgot to take pics of those unfortunately, still got a little bit of work on the dash loom before its ready but only 4 wires to sort out and it can be wrapped and fitted. toying with the idea of clipping it to the bulkhead rather than the dash but we'll see if there is enough room past the blower vents!

Alrighty peeps! Time to reveal one of the secret projects

    Clima to the tronic:
    gti56.jpg

Installing this into a MK2 dash is a bit of a faff as you can imagine! most of the dash trim needs chopping out:
    gti57.jpg

and a big chunk of the dash and metal frame too:
    gti60.jpg

I made a small bracket out of a chuink chopped out of a clock holdery bracet:
    gti59.jpg

    And finally it goes in:
    gti58.jpg

the wiring is a bit of a fiddle but not so bad, the airbox part surprisingly is the easy bit, as its 99% the same as a MK2 airbox assembly!
