Just got myself a MK2 GTI to replace the trusty old 1.6 carby, some pics in no particular order:

First job, remove the towbar, fit centre caps and give it a wash:
    gti11.jpg gti12.jpg gti13.jpg

Bumper was easier said than done, 4 bolts through the boot floor, with 2 nuts on each bolt (above & below bumper iron) Of course the last nut decided to thread itself 3 turns before the end of the bolt, so I had to cut it in half with my dremel! Not the happiest hours of my life but the end result is worth it

They're 15" BBS ones off a BMW e30, I'm not sure the name of them though!
I got mine off ebay but you have to be VERY patient to be able to get em for less than 20 each! Also watch out for plastic clip on caps off other 15" BMW wheels that look the same, cos they wont fit. You have to get the metal twist lock ones.

You need this type, heres another. I normally go to 'car parts & accessories' and search for 'centre cap', you get lots of results but you sometimes find em incorrectly listed :)
    part numbers:
    09.23.117 - outer
    09.24.030 - inner

Been a while since I last posted, but thought I'd share some pics after a fresh valet by AndrewF, and I polished up the zaust tip. Brasso works a treat! Anyway I think the results speak for themselves:

They're the best ones I have, the rest don't do the colour justice! Trust me its a gorgeous colour and almost looks black when clean in some lights, and flips a nice blue in the sun. BUT and this is a big but, if it has any pannel damage you'll look FOREVER trying to find replacements, its such a rare colour as only cars after 1990 got it.
It's taken me close to a year to find a tailgate the right colour and in good nick, just to give you an idea!

I forgot to post a pic after the engine conversion, I've been too busy driving it I guess
I did it over 2 weekends, and tried to use as many MK3 bits as I could. The top breather needs some work, but I've found an Audi PCV unit which has the breather connections at right angles which should help alot. Anyway, heres a piccy:

I was lucky, I found one exactly the same colour and every panel was good apart from the tailgate!

Broke it for spares once I'd taken the panels I wanted :p

The rado controls are almost the same as MK2 ones, but look a bit better. They have a better backlight design, the display is black with just the symbols lit up if you get me?
No the fisher CD box will remain in my posesion, probably passed down from father to son for generations to come

The seats are actually from a MK1 of some kind, the subframes have been converted. The height adjust handle is on the right side there too, if thats any clue? All I know is they have been retrimmed, and they arnt the traditional Recaro shape that us MK2 owners are used to, so may just have had the badge added on later. The seat back tilt winder handles also have Recaro stamped on them, I have a gut feeling they are from an early MK1 cabby, but I don't really know.

I saw a pic of a set the same ages ago, but I have no idea where I saw it!
