Assembly lube used where needed. Race cars are simple, mostly - adult lego :)
The whole thing is in total bits presently but a good single day would see a fully running car again.

Refreshed engine now back home, plus a big box of bits that were replaced.

Injectors cleaned and tested. Alternator setup updated to remove the idler roller. Two thrust bearings in middle of crank that are unique to this engine and only available from Radical. A frankly outrageous 70 each......good job most of bits are production bits from various sources.

So new clutch ready to go in, and box back next week from check over and a further ratio optimisation.

Its quite something, work of art, supposed to be 88kg but I can just about pick it up myself. Not bad for 400hp powerplant.

    Car coming back together nicely

Interesting rpe v8 for sale presently

    https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Details/78945/engine-v8-rpe-30

3L V8 from Christian Merli (Italy; 2nd in FIA Euro Hillclimb Masters) 35K plus tax. Some very interesting mods to broaden powerband with variable length intake trumpets, and what looks to me to be a 4-2-1 exhaust header that might use the std primaries...

Probably came out of his Osella FA30 Evo - this used to be listed as having an RPE engine but more recently is listed with a 'Fortech'....dont know presently if this is the same thing or not

hayabusa head on a golf bottom end, both got 81mm pistons, and both will go to 84mm so theres a chance the bore spacing is very similar.

Edit: 88mm bore centers, think thats same as golf?

Its been quite a while since last update but lots has been progressing steadily. Car is now back together with its rebuilt engine, new clutch, fixed clutch slave cylinder, and further optimised gear ratios. Engine is now run in and oil changed ready to go. Fitted new rear diffuser today which was a swine of a job and took pretty much all day - hard to get fibreglass fully square before drilling lots of holes - but took time and its mm perfect. Only thing left to do is to replace drivers seat belt for a brand new one that is 'in date'. Old one is like new....makes me mad this type of needless expenditure.

Had a good visit to Autosport show and have been investigating what tyres are available to fit SR3/8. There is in fact quite a choice:

Dunlop 200/580-15 and 265/605-16 available in slick and a hand cut wet, with the slick in quite a hard compound (CN720) that takes a few laps to come in. Mainly only available direct from Radical at big $$$ - over 300 each tyre, 1436/set. :thumbd:

Pirelli started doing Radical sizes last year with a few of the cars in the OSS Championship using them. Had the craic with Pirelli at Autosport show and have the setup sheets from them now. 225/580-15 and 285/605-16. WS wet compound and DM medium slick compound which is reportedly softer than the Dunlop. Available from Protyre at 993 a set. Below is wet pattern from a SR3 thats for sale:

Recent find is Hankook now available in Radical sizes from MrTyre Motorsport in BHam. Good price at 792 a set. Apparently identical sizes to the Dunlops but sized 200/580-15 and 260/610-16. Wet compound and C52 dry compound that again is softer than Dunlop. Wet tyre code is Z217 and looks a lot like the Michelin LMP3 wet:

Contemplating getting a set of the Hankook wets to try out.

Avon also do a good selection, and are the only vendor doing anything the right size that I would call a soft compound. Very happy with my Avons, and the support from BMTR, but its always useful to know of alternatives and whats out there.

Other interesting thing from Autosport is that I was on the Radical stand asking a few questions about an engine they had on display, and coincidently a chap stood next to me asked me if I was Rob? Turns out chap in question was Gerard OConnell who sprints a SR8 to some success in N.Ireland. Amazing who you bump into. Anyhow, Gerard has a number of very cool toys including a 650hp Mk2 Escort and has been coming here to read this thread. Nice to meet you Gerard!
