OEM crank sensor

    Here is one of the unusual crank sensors that might be useful if wanting a trigger wheel for an after market ECU, or removal of the internal trigger wheel that may fail at sustained high revs.
    It is for a small block but believe some of the larger engines got this at some point too.

    I thought they'd upped the security for a moment, but I'd just forgotten it.

    For Firefox enlarge the eBay picture,
    Right-click the picture to get the pop-up menu, then left-click on "View Page Info"
    Left-click on the "Media" icon at the top of the "Page Info" pop-up page.
    The image should be auto selected for the "Save As" button and previewed at the bottom.

    this is small block only fitment afaik, part numbers for you:

    030 103 171 K - polo crank sensor flange, M6? - 58.83+VAT
    030 103 171 H - polo crank sensor flange, M5? - 58.83+VAT
    030 957 147 G - polo crank sensor, M6? - 63.24+VAT
    030 957 147 B - polo crank sensor, M5? - 63.24+VAT

    iirc its direct fitment except 1 bolt hole doesnt line up. someone had a post about them and they did a bit of grinding on the block so the sensor could be swapped without taking the gearbox off

    The mk4 X-flow engines have a similar arrangement, which probably fits the older "big blocks", better.

    What engine size?
    My AKL alloy block 1.6 8v has the internal trigger wheel. Is it the 2.0 engines that have this?

    if so tis a bit odd how they removed the trigger wheel from the 2.0 engines again

    I think there were some big block engines that got a similar setup though.
    I was looking for a long nose crank out of an 06X type block. I came across an AGM? crank and rods that looked like it did not have the internal trigger wheel fitted on the crank.
    The pic was not great but the trigger wheel cranks look a little different at the no4 crankpin where the trigger wheel fits.
    Is it possible to search on the AGM engine code on ekta? I think that was the code and it was a 20v iirc.

    yeah click the menu button in etka, then identification codes -> engine code
    gives complete list of all engine codes, AGM doesnt exist though, did you mean AGN?

    It could have been, or the item was listed wrong I suppose.

    It certainly looked like a long nose (chain driven oilpump) crank with no internal trigger wheel. The very thing I was looking for.
    It would be great to know if there were cranks that did not run this internal wheel as std though. It would be a good starting point for high revving applications.

    APK & AQY 2.0 X-flows are internal. Haynes refers to the sensor as a crank speed sensor, (AEH & AKL 1.6 too) so there may not be a reference tooth for crank position...

    AKL certainly has a missing tooth. You can just make it out at in the lower right corner.

    ok that means the AGN has the missing tooth too, both AGN and AKL share the same crank sensor part number :(

    AHG is 99 Polo 1.9 TDI (long throw conversion for 06x block perhaps?) part number is 028 105 101 R. both of these engines have a 'speed sensor ring' which doesn't look the same as the impulse sensor ring. it looks kinda flat and 'fitted' over the end of the crank if that makes any sense?

    it shares the crank with the AKU, AHB and AKW code engines

    Engines fitted to:
    96-03 Caddy
    99-06 Lupo
    95-02 Polo/Derby/Classic/Variant

    97-04 Arosa
    96-03 Inca

    Hmm, that just looks like the internal trigger wheel to me. The TDI ones have just the 1 or 4 cutouts it would seem unlike the petrol that have the missing tooth.

    That AHG crank will be a 95.5mm stroker crank for a 06X block 20v though.

    it might look completly different in real life, the pics on etka can be pretty generic at times
