I've been meaning to post on this topic for a while, as I scooped a few VWM catalogues out of France a while back and noticed something interesting. Anyway, Razzer, VWM parts collector extrodinaire, posted this up yesterday on this thread: It is not a Schrick sump, but it is very close, near as dammit: It's the VWMotorsport forerunner, part no S05 510 360 1SP As listed here: I think most of the baffles look identical. The front edge around the oil pump area is steeper on the VWM sump, and I wonder if the front-left most baffles are shorter on the Schrick. I can't quite see the front left of centre VWM baffle (any chance of a pic from the side Ray?). I was convinced oil was racing up the front of the sump on my Schrick a couple of years back - and removed it. The Reeves Mk1 had the same, and has been internally modified. Any VWM-Schrick differences would be well worth seeing
Oettinger is very different I think inside? Looking at the design, its value is dependent on whether a Schrick is any better + obligatory motorsport scene tax. A side photo from Razzer would help
also Nothelle Tuning had his own alloy sump Here the Spiess / HOR sump, IMO this is the best alloy sump ever made , good oil control with flap doors and VERY strong http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Album=CJ7FLFUB The other alloy sumps tend to crack from the first serious impact, thats why most went to steel sump
Thanks Ray, it looks almost the same, but the two baffles on the back wall (red circles) are shallower on the wall height compared to this: Could be to do with fitting windage trays? maybe? + as mentioned (circled in blue): I would say there's not a huge amount in it. The main concern I had with the Schrick was oil running out of the centre up towards the oil pump body on right handers. There's not a lot to stop it & I don't think one is better than the other in that respect. Interesting to see though, really appreciate that
I could take the sump pan off the Judd and see how close the windage tray sits on top of the baffles, will have to move a few things around to get to it bit tight for space at the moment !
I was thinking of the VW diesel windage trays re: the Schrick. Is yours running that one, or the VWM steel one from the catalogue above? Pics updated above with markings on them for ease. I think the baffle that runs from the oil drain hole is shallower in height on the Schrick also.
I have what's meant to be a Schrick sump but it doesn't have Schrick stamped on it anywhere. Also doesn't have the oil return barb as in Chris's pictures. Is there such thing as fake Schrick sumps?
