    After stripping the back out of the ibiza i was very impressed with the results. Not just 1/4 times but round corneres & under braking :thumbup:

    So rather than spend money on cams i've got more weight loss plans for next year

    Sell the OE half leather GTI seats & put some Sparco sprint buckets in, replace the back 3 windows for 4mm lexan, remove the sunroof window/mech & replace with carbon fibre panel.

    How much weight do you think each could save?

    Ed you could get some lighter wheels if you are keen on a car weight loss program.

    Take a seat out and weigh it. The buckets probably have weight info on the website, Google search suggests Sparco Sprint are around 8 kg, but it didn't say if that includes the weight of whatever framework attaches it to the car.

    very true, rotational weight is something that'll make a lot larger difference for the equivalent weight loss in a car. that said, its much easier to loose larger amounts of weight from the sprung mass of a car due to the sheer volume.

    have you got a cage etc installed?

    I have a plan for some wheels already. A set of 6kg superlites with semi slick tyres that only come out to play for track days ;)

    No cage in it, i've only recently started the stripping. Still have some sound deadening to go

    Any framework left from the rear bench that you could cut out Ed?

    With those wheels your vehicle weight has gone down by what, ~15kg?

    Thats right, should be about 15kg to save from wheels. I've had some before on my old black ibiza & made a hell of a difference. Shame they don't look better, i don't think splits suit the 6K ibiza

    10k-15 kgs with a full set of Polycarbonate ;) With removing the window winders and associated bits and its removing weight from high up in the car so will improve handling.

    Sounds good, i'll be sending you a PM when i need some :)

    Can get my bodyshop to fit them. They've agreed to do the sunroof already lol

    I'd do the windows before the seats if I was to do it again really. The reason why is,when you factor in the mounts,harnesses and there is a little saving. If you have to weld in mounting bars with spreader pates,the weight saving reduces again,they weigh more than you'd think.
    Windows are a straight swap weight wise if using the OE rubbers.
    I do like the Idea and it works like you say with both speed and handling,not to mention fuel consumption (although very little) free power rules lol.

    Advantages are to be had from re-distributing weight, as well as shedding it, battery and washer bottle moved inside the cabin,behind the passenger seat, or in the wheel well for the batt,even go to a smaller lighter battery (potentially saving up to 5kg), washer bag off ebay for apx 10 delivered to save a few grams.

    Got my cable & cage to fit battery in boot :)

    ..just need to get round to fitting lol

    So just found out the OE seats are just under 20kg each.

    Sparco buckets at 8kg + brackets & harness

    No offence ment but go on a diet if your a big lad?? might be able to save a few 'stone' [:$]

    are 15" OZ Ultralegga's really 5kg :o

    thats on my shopping list lol

    So...

    -20kg fitting buckets
    -20kg OZ wheels
    -15kg carbon sunroof
    -10kg lexan back 3 windows

    It's 1043kg on the scales atm so 978kg is possible :o

    7x15 OZ ultras and Team Dynamics Pro Race are around 6kg I think.

    I got some old Corbeau Fibreglass bucket seats (no good for racing as they're well out of date) which are 5.5kg each according to my bathroom scales, plus about 1-2kg of brackets. Harnesses and normal belts are about the same I think, as long as you don't keep the stock belts as well.

    7kg race battery, vs 15+ for a normal one?

    Just converted my track day car into a rally car. put the battery back in the front as a weight saving exercise..........(no 5M of heavy gauge cable, clips or battery box, doh..)

    Yeah my battery is 15kg exactly on my scales. Its still an every day road car so i don't really want to downsize it.

    I'll bin the OE seatbelts when i get harnesses in. Might get a bar welded in at the back to mount the harnesses too
