Just minutes new but thought I would introduce myself. I'm not quite into mods like many of you appear to be, in fact I'm quite the opposite. I have MkII 8v that I bought new back in 1989; approx. 85K on the clock. I used it heavily initially but it has been garaged for the last 15 years. In reasonable condition overall the best thing about it is that, service parts aside, it is original and 100% VW. Planning to use it this summer so joined for advice and to share experiences. Phil
Your car sound great and I'm sure 99% of the modified car owners also appreciate the standard stuff So, a warm welcome to Club GTI Now get some pics up
Thanks 1990. Errm would get some pics up but fell out with Photobucked a little while ago. I uploaded some pictures and they appeared to take control of them; I couldn't delete them or do anything with them. It could have been that I was new and didn't understand their software but it was far from user friendly. However in my frustration I told them where to stick the account. A bit stuck for pictures I'm afraid.
Welcome. There are quite a few of us here that want the original "OEM" look and feel to the car, so you're not alone. Original owner from new-impressive!
Closer still, I live in Boroghbridge. Hopefully, and this is my second attempt, here is my car: I'll get a full set of pictures up once I have the car taxed.
Hello! Your car sounds great you should get it out on the road some more whilst the weather is nice(ish)! I'm also from York ive had VW's for years and recently got myself an oak green 16V. Needs few bits doing though
Oak Green with 16v is a very nice combination. I think I've seen your car on the forum and was a little envious. By the way I'm not being rude and not responding to you all. I keep posting and my posts just disappear.
I know and having arrived here I'm surprised how many there are. Not to worry, I didn't join to sell a rarity it's my car and I intend to keep and enjoy it.
Thanks Collie, it's got a definitely used but cared for feel to it. The engine bay for example is clean but you can see that the engine has done the miles. I used to drive it over the M62 from Wakefield to Manchester every working day when I first bought it. At the end of each winter the engine used to be grey with salt deposits. There was no chance of keeping it in perfect condition. The most pleasing thing to me though is its originality, particularly the interior. I'll get it taxed, but probably wait until July now, and then get a full set of photos loaded up in the gallery section.
Hi, welcome. Lived in Knaresborough for 10years, Mk1 days. You have some nice roads around there within a few miles! I also had a non-pas 16v looking like yours - also had my IAM badge on the front Great car, lovely clean look, I have a hankering after a standard one now that I've changed mine so much. Look forward to some more pics.
...........Nice mk2 you have there.Have you noticed a red ED30 around Boroughbridge?. My brother in laws.
Thank you, I really enjoyed driving it 105 miles through the Yorkshire dales. Now I will get my leg pulled for this; 48 mpg. My excuse is the tyres are getting old and they don't grip like they used to. Such a shame they are not fully supported with parts as they would still make a good every day car.
