I currently have a MK1 Golf that is running a 2.0 Bottom end with KR Head, Stainless Exhaust and Twin 40 Dellorto Carbs. I was thinking of going for an ITB set up and a megasquirt ECU. Just looking for some advice on what would be needed, will running ITBs give better cold start and smoother power delivery. From what i have seen Toyotec is the man to talk to. I did try and send a PM but Toytec Kind Regards Neil
My mail box is full. The ITBs or intake modules, I created with known OEM Toyota components are a work of love and research, as was the megasquirt ECU amd loom that was used. This was partly as I had a spare ECU and I built them for most on here at the time! The whole thing was done in my spare time and used components donated to me for experimental purposes, to supersede the overall performance achieved on of the shelf throttles. I did have some welding paid for for the intake manifold runners. By performance I meant WOT Power and torque profile on a stock engine, and the entire driveablity envelop. As I have a lot of skill and resource at my disposal to modify the performance feel of any engine, if you are not so equipped, I would recommend the following off the shelf product. sparrow on here is the owner of DTA. He also sell packages that incorporate Jenvey throttles. Of course Jenvey do a DTH 16v set up that was developed with Bill Brockbank of Badger 5. Supporting modification will be needed if it is to work to you requirements, whatever that is.
I definetly agree with Toyotec, i've built a kit starting from a bmw k1200r itb setup and costed me the same as a used Jenvey kit plus ages for getting it done.. and more over a friend gave me for free one like one week later mine was running lol
That was not my case when I created these. And later a larger version. Tested and running >>here<<. Costs can be mitigated when you know what you are doing But the above is not a case of botch it together and expect a brilliant running car, hence the suggestion of the DTA/Jenvey combination that will work for most.
Yoou think it is difficult to build your own with an inline 4 , you should try a V6! My Mazda has 2 sets of Triumph triples and syncing has been a nightmare. Opening ans closing at the same time becomes really important when you need to tune on TPS! And that was my second go as I started with some GSXR ones cut from 4's to 2x3's Unless you have strong resources and a lot of time I would definitely recommend a kit as much better value
As toyotec says, both Badger5 and I can supply a full Jenvey kit. You will need the throttle position sensor on the throttle bodies, as well as a crank trigger disc of some sort. I mounted one on the crank pulley on my 9A engine, and that's been going fine for nearly 10 years. I can also provide a start up map for the engine.
Thanks Sparrow, is this something you could also install or would i need to get a local garage to install the kit using your base map? Would your kit include the Throttle Sensor and Crank trigger disc Kind Regards Neil
We don't do the install, we have dealers all over the country, so you can choose one close to you. The throttle position sensor is on the Jenveys, so no problem. The crank position sensor you will need to fit yourself. We can provide a generic disc and sensor, but you would need to weld the disc, and fabricate a bracket for the sensor. The most important part is speaking to the person who is going to fit it all and map it. They need to use a system they are comfortable with, so make sure you speak to them before making any final decisions or purchases.
THAT Saves time money, and sometimes motors (though not so risky on an NA) and part throttle (ie where you drive) can be 100% better
Terribly sorry, missed this, Ford Telstar, which is an early 90's Mazda V6. Same motor as Radisich era BTCC motor
