My dad recently bought a Hmc Healey mkiv Built by HMC under the rights of Austin Healey Fibreglass body on a chassis similar to a Tvr powered by a 4.0l rover Nice to see different cars imo as seeing the same stuff does get monotonous
Buying an old engine would be pointless Dont you think mat? Especially as you could buy a late much more powerful complete car for probably 500 lol
But then it would not really be a replica would it. I really want it to be as close as I can manage it to original. the Jag XK unit has plenty enough grunt for what is a 960kg car on 185/80R16 rubber.
Exactly, For it to be a replica he needed an original engine lol Looks great, i bet it will sound amazing!
Thank you Mat yes I do think it is good looking car. Sound you say. This clip should give you a idea.
Been very lucky and got my hands on a LSD, should help with putting the power down via 185 tyres. Front suspension all built up now. Not a lot of space in the footwell at all, this is only 31cm wide.
Well, holiday's have been getting in the way of things in the garage, along with a long wait to get the new 'fancy' dizzy back from being repaired as the Bluetooth function within it was not playing ball at all. I know its not very in-keeping with the old school build but it is fully electronic and so enables one to map the ignition from your mobile / ipad. Also provides an immobilization function. very slick (I hope). Should be good to start this up any day now.
Well it's all up and running gents. Have still to fill the forms in for the IVA test but it's all nearly done. Have managed to get about 120 miles under it's belt (YES, YES on a personal test track) and all is going well. It is a bit on a loud side mind you. Don't think Corsa in ASDA carpark with bean cans sticking out the back loud. This is setting off my neighbors car alarms. It is also still running a bit rich and there are flames on the over run (apparently) but all very much in keeping with period. Will have it on the rolling road and set up properly once it's run in a bit more and painted.
Hi and thank you. Been a lot of hard work to get to this stage, but very pleased to report that it took me just under a year to go from collecting the chassis to driving it to the MoT station. BRG is a bit old hat and the other colour that is (in my view) over done is the Ecurie Ecosse blue. So I am going for dark midnight blue, to match PUG 676 and the mk2 Jag.
Well there is a shock... I failed the IVA test, guess what on? Yep the sound level. Genuinely very pleased to only have this and the speedo under reading as an issue. How ever and this is VAG related... I now have a Audi TT rear box fitted as an addition to the side exit one. Who would have guessed this would be the solution. It is so much quieter now, almost a shame. But now I know it will get a pass. Please ignore the rear panel as this too is a add on for the IVA test.
I am quite pleased with how this turned out... after a few long shifts this weekend. now to just put the doors on and get it polished up once the paint is fully hard. just in time for the foretasted snow :-)
