I have both these problems; odd occasional random miss/hold-back and my tacho drops straight past 2/3k down to ~1000 (occasionally dies) with a fast fall.

No leaks on the the over-run valve piping that I can see.
I've electrically charged it and it audibly clicks.
I have good ign live on the yellow/black wire.
As far as I can tell; no switched earth on the brown/black (BUT i'm not sure in what situation it should have a signal?? at idle from cold start?)

Is it likely my ISV control unit is dead?
Presumably that would be the likely culprit for the hunting and rich idle I have too?

the brown.black is triggered when you lift off from high rpm by the isv controller, have a look at the red/black wire from the controller to the spade connector near the coil and check the brown/white wires to the head as one of them is for the isv module

So If I rev it up to 5000 and let off the throttle I should see continuity with body earth on the black brown?
could you advise what/how should I check the other two?

yep. easy to check the brown/white is good just check for ignition voltaghe between the black wire and the brown/white on the isv controller plug, for the red/black check for continuity between the isv pin and the coil negative :)
