Thanks Eddie Going back to original ratios as currently has a 4.25FD. Found another box so going to rebuild my box or use the new one. I’ve still got the original drivers seat and spare base. Do you know any good retrim experts? Hers a pic under the hood as I had the bay restored new battery tray and full engine rebuild in 2014.
When I ran a 4.25, as I drove the car daily at the time, it put a lot of wear on the engine compared to another with a 3.67 FDR. Even with a 0.85 5th, it was far too buzzy at motorway speeds. A screamer on the Autobahn. I did like the axle multiplication of 4.25 FDR though, but not the drawbacks. So I fitted an 02S that sort of made the first 5 gears a tad shorter than the 020 4.25 FDR, with the 6th mph/1000 rpm similar to top in an 020 AUG/ACD 8v gearbox.
I remember this car from the good old days, always liked it seems to keep all the positives and character of a 16valve GTI and enhances them I would imagine it's a great drive, nice to see it still with you Noticed the VMS Combined gear knob and gaiter always wanted one of those but could never find one. Another vote for for MJ, coincidentally I spoke with him yesterday about some work, nice guy, he's the man when it comes to trimming IMHO
