Great night last night. I plugged in the lighting looms and the only thing that does not work is the o/s spot light. I tested with the n/s loom and it lights up, so its not just a dodgy bulb. So thats the only part of the loom to check! Rev counter all working - just had to plug that back in so tonight i just need to track the issue in the o/s spot light loom and then i can wrap the loom and tuck it away. Happy days!
does the outer main lamp work fine? if so then its an issue between the outer h4 plug and the lamp as it takes power straight from that
Yes it does work, brilliant, so that just a short section to check, i bet one of the pins is not in correctly. Thanks John
I've been tinkering away in the garage lately. Inspeciting all the wires and replacing whole lengths where required. I invested in a decent set of crimping tools early on and they have been amazing! they allow you to crimp proper terminals with ease. IMG_20210124_220814 by Laxadams, on Flickr I've taken the time to use wire braiding where possible, it tidies it up and adds some additional protection to the loom IMG_20210123_210731 by Laxadams, on Flickr The fog light loom was quite honestly a mess, i don't know what happened to it in pervious ownership but there was 3 different wires used to make up the positive length on the n/s.. so i'm just making a whole new loom. It's a bit longer so that i can run it away nice and hidden. Not quite sure what do do about the connection between the main lighting loom and the connection to the FogLight loom as it looks like the white/clear one in the first picture and i can't find those terminals online. i would like to keep it original but might have to have something more after market IMG_20210124_220337 by Laxadams, on Flickr
the white plug takes standard 6.3mm latched spade terminals, available all over http://polevolt.co.uk/acatalog/Uninsulated_Terminals_and_covers.html just need to find a donor spade housing to match it
I googled all sorts to find out what they were... knowledge is key! thanks again John, i can use the current housings and tidy them up
Got given a set of ex MOD crimping pliers back in the early 90s, definitely worth their weight in gold, neat and secure. Grabbed a load of the plastic covering for wires at the scrapyard when did the mini, makes it so much smarter and as you say protection for it. Nice work.
it really does. i wish i could do the main loom sections with the closed type, but thats a real mission. its not too hard when you are de-pinning a terminal connection, you can slide on a section of the braiding , a small bit of electical tape to secure it and stop any fraying...then a nice heat shrink end
I’m trying to persuade our in-house guru. I’ve managed to get him to do my engine loom, I’m going to try and swing the rest
cleaned this little thing up yesterday as it was a bit black inside, soaked with soda powder first and then used some small bruhes to get inside and clean it..then finished with washing powder and water, this is slightly abrasive and cleans it out. IMG_20210129_081804 by Laxadams, on Flickr Everything is getting braided once its been tested and works..which is everthing now IMG_20210128_225600_858 by Laxadams, on Flickr
Where did you get all the braid from? I’m definitely doing it. I’m glad you posted the bottle bit, I need to do mine
its pretty universal stuff, ebay and vehicle wiring products stock it. I just bought a few 25m rolls of different sizes the nly bugger with the bottle is getting out the internal cylinder that the sensor sits in.. i might have melted it a little, but nobody will see that
