haha thats the funny thing, i have not been to a show in years! Maybe Retro Rides 4 years ago.

I have found over the 6 years of ownership that many people are stuck in their ways and if its not an original 8v wth all original parts then you seem to just get ignored. I just do what i like and drive it when i can.

However, i do think that ClubGTI is a bit different and the users just appreciate another old MK2 on the road, so i'll defo try to attend some kind of CGTI meet if there ever is one

Something for the board to look in to maybe they just have to wait for us 6 or so to get finished [:D]

I’m the same, not a fan of car shows at all. I just want to drive it, that’s why I’m building it. I couldn’t care if people don’t like it

Granted I'm more of an OEM/OEM+ head myself but once a conversion is done properly as per Sam, Vinnie and Cupracraig then I take my hat off to the chaps that do it - I honestly don't know how you guys give such time and considerable effort (not to mind the expense) - it's truly amazing. Maybe I'm just lazy and want to take one thing out and put the same thing back in as quickly and easily as possible.

But as the saying goes "to each their own" - either way it means there are more Mk2's around and that's mighty fine by me.

Its just been a learning experience for me, never picked up a wrench before buying this car.

Time is the issue, i have 3 boys under 12 years old, so its just a case of grabbing an hour here, and hour there. It more of a sanity thing, escaping into the garage to dis engage my brain

Oh I know the story re: Kids - I've got twin 5 year old boys - man they're great but they can fairly wind you up as well..

I also know the child struggle. Little Flo is 3 this month, she comes and lends a hand, gets in the way, prevents me from welding etc but we love it!

Yep sometimes it's anything but help but that's the way of it - although that said I think Maximilian is showing a bit of aptitude for mechanical work, he seems to be genuinely interested in what I do and how I service/fix things. As for Robert Jnr. - my goodness he's clueless and a menace around the garage

Its all clean metal under there, but i wanted to strip it back and do it now while its off the road. it'll get a couple coats of Raptor black and then some Schultz for more stone protection.

People use goggles when using wire wheels? :O

I’ll slowly creep back into my hole and find my safety goggles

So i've got these old Ford Rearos in the loft. Recaro LS-C with the nice little leg extenders.

I can't justify a full retrim, its crazy money... but i was thinking about sourcing come more Red UV material and having the recaros trimmed to match the current interior.

I have never seen a set of red UV Recaros though so its hard to picture. Loads of pics of the blue ones online but its not the same.

the other option is to change interior to a rainbow one, the material for that is freely available online.

    what do you guys think?
