Hi everyone just started doing some repairs on my old golf. Steering lock is jammed on can’t budge it. I have a new ignition barrel. How do I replace it. Many thanks
the trouble with the ignition barrel is they wont come out unless key is turned, so you might have a struggle on your hands. worst case another ignition lock housing would do the trick. pre-90 mk2 golf ones fit need to drill a hole like so:
Dragging this thread back up as we have changed all our locks and want to do the ignition to match. It is possible to remove the barrel without drilling a hole, ie by removing the housing from the column and moving the locking spring from behind? Or is drilling the only way?
only way to get the barrel out of the ignition housing is to drill a hole. if you have a replacement ignition housing with lock you can swap that over in one go, just note that CE1 and CE2 housings differ (locks swap either way)
