A safe space where we can share welding stories, techniques and (mainly I) can upload pictures of my rubbish welds because no one else cares!

I attached my first two bits of metal today.

Weld 1 wasn’t quite hot enough,

Weld 2, too hot but better with penetration.

And 3, just me getting there, tried a longer weld but was uncomfortable hence the inconsistency.

    Practice makes perfect.
It looks like you've frightened off the seagulls now, and knocking the coins over. Nice one.

Jealous of your TIG. waiting on a control board for my AC/DC one, I'm gagging to start splattering aluminium!

I mean… you can try splatter aluminium but it doesn’t splatter!

Getting there, ignore the other stuff on my box. But it’s progress.

pipe welding is pretty hard so I’m pleased with how this is coming along

That’s a really great start. Never done any TIG stuff but can get by with a mig

I hadn’t either, a massive part of it is seat time.

Point and shoot! Id love to do a welding course and see how my welds actually fare.

I have a new TIG set up here and a mate came down and showed me the basics, and I had a go.....but just no time to practice.....its just sitting there.

I like MIG welding and can get by, but really fancy aluminium welding.

Looks like your getting there and practice is the answer for sure.....and if you can find a mate who knows how to do it 30 mins together would really help.
Understanding when/why they adjust for different situations is so helpful.

I’ve been speaking to some of the guys at work who are certified TIG/MIG welders which has been handy. They’ve given me tips, some stuff to make my life easier too and they’re impressed with what I’m doing so far.

You need to lower the amps as the metal gets hot, thats why is nice to weld with a pedal although not entirely necessary ! Outside corners are really hard and you need to slope down the current in order to have no crater. Otherwise youre making great progress.

Bought the cheapest tig ac/dc welder but never got one useful weld with aluminum, it just does not work, could be the man or the machine. Welder sent to warranty 2-3 times as it had difficulty starting the arc, it just sparked intermittently on lower amp, under 50A. Came back the same.
    Stainless worked nice.
For gas i have to drive 200km and pick up after few days, another 200km.

Where about are you in România ?
Seems a bit excessive to drive this much for a bit of gas, I charge my bottles in Buzau, if you’re on the way between Bacau and Braila then maybe I could sort something up for you…
