Ive got a set of VDO gauges from an Audi 80 with orange illumination. How do I change the colour to green? I think I saw a set done in blue on Ebay.

the bulbs are clear, there are no filters it is the dial faces themselves that make them orange, havent looked to far into it yet, it just needed them to work!

They do have filters which are red and they`re a bugger to remove .I ended up destroying a gauge trying to open it up

How do you open them? Is it a case of prising the black ring of the front (with care) and them removing the gauge from the housing?

Just opened one up and its like oakgreen88 said, dial faces are orange on the back. Tried to peel it off but its like its bonded on there. Does anyone do dial faces for vdo gauges in different colours?

Sounds like it would be easier to change the dash lights to red to match the VDO gauges

I fitted my set and left them red, I think it looks ok.

What if I scratched the orange backing off and fitted green leds do you think this would work.

might do, or see if trimsport can supply some dial faces?

Did any one try this change from orange to green? I am looking for a set (my mum threw out my last ones!!!) and want to know whether the colour change is possible?

Can you not just paint the bulbs green with bulb paint?

no because there are orange filters around the back of the dial face. it would go brown or something mingin

That could be quite nice

Maybee if you got really bright LEDs I know bright blue LEDs overpowered the green filter in my dash, but I think the red filter might be a bit much!

I'd go for red lighting personally, make a nice change :)

I just used green bulbs in my VDO's [:D]

Pics of them illuminated? Alternatively is there a colour that mixes with red to make green so you could paint the bulb that colour?

Doesn't blue and yellow make green, so a blue bulb may work? I've just fried my brain doing a Mech. of Solids exam so i might be talking a crock of sh*te

As mine are from an Audi with the mentioned red in the dial I dont' think just changing the bulb will do it.
