I washed the wifes 53 plate 1.2 Polo this afternoon and now the thing won't start properly. It starts, but only just, and will only run at about 2-2.5k revs (even then it sounds far from healthy), as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator it cuts out.
The drain plug undet the drivers side scuttle was full of leaves/crap which I only noticed after I'd washed it.
Obviously something has got wet - but what, and will it be terminal :o

I could be wrong, but aren't these prone to coil pack failure? I'm sure some else will be able to help more!

I'd get busy with the WD40.

I would do, but nothing under the bonnet seemed to be damp, I'd just washed it as normal

Is there any damp inside? Maybe the fuse box area?

Gave up with it and had it recovered to my local indy.
Seems the timing chain has slipped and washing the car was nothing to do with it.
He's fitting new timing chain etc tomorrow, so fingers crossed there isn't any other damage.
