Help! Ordered QH BC2083 handbrake cables as they appeared 'about' the correct length. (internet shopping) They have arrived and have the coily spring at the brake end, so presumably are for drum brakes.. Likewise the ferrule on the retainer is too small (presumably to fit through a drum backplate) Had a look through for an FAQ but didn't find one. Anybody ordered cables for a disc braked mk1 recently? Care to help me out, don't want to get it wrong twice.. Thanks Jon Next event for it is an autocross (practise) 18th April....
Not going to be much help really, but on my mk2 caddy I swapped to rear discs and used the adaptor alloy things that retrofication, epytec and creation motorsport sell, used original drum brake cables. But on a side note, I've just swapped to discs on the mk2 golf, ordered late gti cables as it's a 91, outer sleeve seem too short as dont run as per original ones, and inner is stupidly long, I've got another set of earlier ones to fit as listed as longer. I used these on the caddy, - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Caddy...-/112680454624?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286
Not sure TBH I built this car that long ago I have forgotten. It has the steel calipers. Hoping RubJ might have the answer Regards Jon
Autodoc is showing 16V scirocco as 1748mm outer 1088mm inner for drum brake, so I don't think these are correct. QH BC2322 mk2 golf gti are 1.8M overall long and have the correct ends for discs. Any confirm that's what they have used? thanks Jon
scirocco 16v are closest factory cable, but if you have later mk2, mk3 or mk4 calipers mounted the right way up with handbrake connection on the bottom they often end up slightly too tight. I had genuine VW ones on my cab and had to trim the guide tubes down under the car 10mm. you could try pre-87 mk2 golf gti 1800mm cables though people have found they fit. if your calipers are early mk2 golf (same as scirocco 16v) or later ones fitted upside down with cable to the top then the scirocco 16v cables should be a straight fit
more parts arrived 2322's are the correct ones, for me, phew pair of 2083 available cheap, if anybody needs them thread complete Jon
