Had the little monkey race EG out for some exercise at Croft today for the Brit Sprint. (1 lap of the circuit) Oh dear, not something to shout about. Poor little thing not carb ing correctly. In spite of a rr session. Off the pace all day. Engine sounds off song, rather like 3 cyls. So carbs off for a stripdown, hopoing to find something obvious. Its not sparks, or a mech problem, as far as I can see. Every fuel change I made made it worse. Only positives today were some lovely 4 wheel drifts on soft 13" Avon slicks, trying too hard... Jon
thanks, motorsport is like that. the off days make the good ones seem much sweeter. nothing but a bit of fault finding shouldn't fix Jon
Recently been back to the rollers with the EG, playing with a range of emulsion tubes to do back to back tests on ref air/main jets. Very interesting results. Anyway, the EG lump ran well, giving the expected numbers. In spite of this, I am building a high compression ABF to try and better the power/torque of my last rally 9A. For the mk1 Block should be back next week, allowing the build to continue. Wossners used, for cost reasons Jon
Jon, what did you decide for your distributor? I'm assembling a pretty much stock 1600 Heron head motor for a '79 GTI...
My race EG uses a std EG dizzy, nothing special. It shouldn't spend much time below 4K, except in the pits. The 8V race lump I am building now is going onto ITB's with wasted spark coming from a 36-1 wheel on the front pulley. Will post a pics or 2 when I get a chance Jon
