Looking at building a garage in the next month or so to replace the god awful asbesdos thing thats currently in my garden. I'm looking at a timber framed garage due to the fact i can make it myself, it would be cheaper, hopefully not get damp like the single skin block ones and it would be quicker to put up. It would be about 8m x 4m... what are your thoughts as all the builds on here are brick or block jobbies. My aim, would be it to look sort of like this - but not turquoise! Chaps
Looks pretty smart that. I`d say, as long as it`s weather-proof, well treated, and a decent price compared to block, then why not?
Thats what I am thinking, it should definately be cheaper, mainly due to not having to pay labour costs for brickwork and rendering. Dont really need footings either as there is no weight in the walls, just a 6" slab and build off that.
Have a look at my build thread in the members cars section - details of the garage i built last winter in there. Should give you an idea of whats involved in building a wood garage.
Thanks Dan, just had a read through your Jetta / Garage build. It looks really well made and has given me a good few things to consider.. Has it been worth insulating it? I wasnt going to bother, but after seeing yours I may now.
I`m pretty sure any wood garage like that would be treated for heat/fire protection, so would be fine with sparks at least.
keep a fire extinguisher in there, and be alert when welding, grinding, making bombs and you should be fine. I have a 3mx6m sat on slabs and its fine.
