From a general look around here, reading the likes of Eddies Jenvee thread etc, am I right in thinking that once you've "02j'd" a mk2, swapping to an 02s is simple? I'm using a cable clutch, and a Polo shift tower. Is the 02s gear change sweeter than 02j? Will my Polo shifter and cables swap over?
The gear change is the same quality. Any Golf or Polo/Ibiza shifter works. I also use a clutch cable.
Because you can't bolt it to gearbox mounts. Casing is different. Missing holes for mk2/mk3 gearbox bracket. I have done 02J 6 speed in mk3 I know.
^^ He is right. I did not just bolt an 02S to JENVEE. If it was a bolt up, then there is nothing to report. The gearbox was taken to Martin in Wales and the while the guts is 100% 02S, the casing is 02J as is the bellhousing. That allows the fitment to be a strightforward '02J/02A conversion. Best speak to Martin who knows these gearboxes to a tee!
Apologies if I seemed argumentative. It was an honest question, I didn't know the answer, I wasn't doubting you. Thanks for the explanation.
Glad to help http://pittiplatsch.larsheber.de/Getriebe/6-Gang 02S/index.html I had problem with 5/6 gear fork adjusting. This is not shown here
Adjusting the fork isn't an issue. With the case built up and in neutral, just adjust as necessary so the finger is loose on the fork . Then try the tower by hand with the case off. They also missed out a vital step in that write up.
