I have seen some of those shiny ones , but dont fancy paying £95 with everything else I am doing.
If I stop the rust on everything I will he happy with the effort it needs for now.

They are a premium price, but standard ones were about 38 each when I was in the market, so thought paying the little bit more for ones that had no rot, rather than for replacement then having to do a bunch of messing on to get them OK ho be shut back up in the roof and corrode again.
    You can get lucky sometimes.
Don't know if any mk3 stuff is compatible, got it in my head the arms were same, can't remember for sure, and that's where the stainless ones were from, I'll see if can find out.

That would be great if mk3 fit. Has to be less tax than mk2 spares

The price of those sunroof bits are ludicrous.

The elusive unicorn part I suppose, if they are no longer available and second hand off the car are 30+ years in reality, and weathered, then it will be a sellers market.
I'm not justifying the prices, but it's finding them, I know some idiot that paid nearly £400 for a broken grille for a mini a few years ago, but it was the only one for sale at the time.
If someone remanufacture them in stainless, or even normal steel its going to be more, need some 3d printing geniuses to look into it maybe?

Well until I source the parts I decided to do some late night spraying of the black sunroof parts. Cheap satin spray but they come up looking nice again.
Time to put them away with all the other bits until ready for a respray
Cheap wilko's satin black . I have recoated the water deflector with some coats of Hammerite as I think that part needs all the help it can get. Still drying.
I need to put more effort into finding someone with sunroof spares

I am trying to pluck up the courage to cut out the inner sunroof tray to get at the rust.
Any tips welcome, especially on how to drill out spot welds..

Worth a try for that price, ordered .
I have definitely talked myself into getting it out. No point sorting all the car and letting the rust in there fester.
I purchased a flexible drill extension, but it doesnt work very well at all.
Shame that no one has fabricated a replacement plastic version. Anyone... anyone

20211219_102949.jpg Thought I would have a go at trying a wheel refurb. Had one blasted clean, fillled the worst areas and have just given it a coat of etch primer.
I need to work out how to sort masking the P's but all worth a go.
Not perfect but that isnt my intention for a first attempt
I may actually like them if they come out okay

Did a MK1 P-Slot years ago, like you just to see how it went. Came out fine I thought.

The black insets I did in reverse as it were, painted them first. Masked around the now black P from the inside so the adhesive side of the tape was facing out (quick mock up with a sticker below) and filled in the void behind with bath sponge, if that makes sense?. Did the silver, main part last.

Very smart. Is it easier to paint silver then mask to spray P slots second.

I do like that. I had read that someone else did it that way round but the silver blend onto the black. Yours look good though

Was a long time ago, but do remember I initially tried to mask the P's and do it that way about.

Apart from my not being able to get it as neat as I'd have liked, after about half a wheel I got seriously fed up and couldn't face doing another three.

Had seen threads (might've been the MK1OC) where people have persevered and it looks well, but this way about worked fine for me.

Not sure if there'd be the demand, but if someone did sheets of laser cut (is that the term?) 'P' masking templates they'd maybe, be onto a winner!

From recollection though the P's might be different sizes on MK1 / Mk2 versions, then there's all the 15" Ronals and other variations that might be odd too?

So, what do you do when off work, got a positive test xmas day for covid even though feeling fine?
Have a go at masking off the pirelli p slots...
I had time to kill and my daughter was on her driving test so this seemed a good distraction.
Probably took just over an hour so not too bad really. Not perfect but will do for now, just needs lacquering.
