I've got a Mk2 Gti (8v originally) with an ABF 16v engine conversion. It's got a 2003 EGT code Beetle gearbox attached to it. I've just had a Sachs clutch fitted as the old clutch was on it's last legs.
After having the clutch fitted, the clutch pedal is a lot better to press but still not as easy as it should be.
I have no idea what clutch cable is fitted to it, but it looks like its been bodged by the person that did the gearbox install, as it's got a few washers and nuts on the end of the clutch cable at the gearbox end.
Does anyone know which clutch cable would work best, or would it be worth converting it to hydraulic?
A list of any parts I'd need would be appreciated.
I'll post some better recent photos of the engine/gearbox/clutch cable soon, as the cars in my unit.
I've attached the only one I can find, just as a rough idea.
    Thanks!

Or maybe look at one of these conversion kits from Boost Fabrication? (£195)
It's designed for the 02a and 02j gearboxes.
Not sure it would fit my gearbox though?

looking at your cable I see the big metal weight on there, which means its probably a SEAT one. Might actually be the proper toledo one which would be a bonus, could be you just need to give it a clean and re-grease perhaps

Few more photos of the clutch set up.
Do you think the hydraulic conversion kit would work on my gearbox, even though it's says it's for 02a and 02j gearboxes?

I think the retrofication one requires the pedal to be welded?

Any idea if the slave cylinder that comes with their kit and attaches to the box would fit my EGT code gearbox, or would I need to source the correct hydraulic one that originally fitted to my gearbox? Sorry for the stupid questions, but I have no idea when it comes to gearboxes.
    Thanks.

That I cannot help you with. Call Retrofication, they are helpful. Someone else here may well know though.

the clutch cable actuator looks fine, the bracket I think has been chopped off something else? looking at it the cable seems to be kinked/out of alignment, you can see where the actuator has been chafing it. have a look see if you can get it straightened out a bit, make sure there's a little slack as well.

can see from the pics in the linky above the cable pull should be pretty straight, that and possibly mod the pedal end of the cable to sit in the right spot on the clutch pedal should hopefully smooth it out. the clutch will be heavy compared to hydro but nothing too bad, about the same as a normal new quality mk2 golf clutch kit

the 02a and j boxes have the same fit for the master cylinder so if it goes on an 02a it'll go on an 02j and vice versa :)

Thanks mate. I'll try to straighten out that cable for the time being.
I've messaged Retrofication about their hydraulic kit, as I'd prefer to go that route.
My set up seems to be a bit Frankenstein.
    Cheers!

Sorry for the stupid question, but would it fit my EGT gearbox?
Is EGT the same as 02J?

Yeah 02a/j is just the overall type, 02a is cable shift gearbox for mk3 and 02j MK4 version, basically the same box but with slight differences here and there. So you have an 02j box.with code egt in a nutshell :)
