02A shifter question

    I've got what I Belive is the 02A shifter in my golf, but the gear knob isn't attached, should the shifter be threaded to attach one too it? Looking at photos of 02A shifters online they all look threaded.

    Mine looks like this, has someone cut the top off to make it shorter or am I quoting the wrong shifter as I don't want to buy a gear knob that won't fit.

    Looks like a mk3 style 02A to me. With the top cut off as you say.
