Lads, love this thread. Sorry if Im hijacking it by asking tech questions.

I got an AWT - on an A6 as above. Also have a mk.1 GTi hence Im on here.

My question is, where is the distributor on these. Ive rebuilt my mk. 1 engine start to finish so know a fair bit but this has me baffled. My engine is longitudinal facing 90 degrees around from the one above. Tried following the HT leads but lose them down back of engine.

    Any info much appreciated.

    Jonola,

They don't run a distributor but coil packs.. one for each cylinder.

Micheal Ghia, the AGU engine has an internal water pump.

Hi, just a quick query. Do the engines that have a forged crank also have forged rods and/or pistons?

Sorry if there`s another thread for this sort of question, but the search engine on this website is just pooh, i can`t ever find what i`m looking for:)

I`m building a mid-engined scirocco for hillclimbing and i`ve got an AUM lump to go in it, so i`m just trying to find out how far i can push the engine on its standard components. Obviously if its got forged internals then it`ll be cheaper to tune.

So much for the quick query[:D]

So far as I am aware, the rods are the same as 16V items so not that strong and the pistons are all Cast. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

BHP... From reading up on this, about 350bhpis the mx you can go to without needing to replace the rods and pistons but don't blame me when it goes bang

Wife's 51reg Leon Cupra has AUQ code, 180bhp.

This is the code on the front left of the camcover as you look at engine, is that correct? Excuse my ignorance.

I'd expect its the same as the KR rod length.

I have a AWT in my garage and the crank is cast, same with APU. Both have the small head port.

The rods are weaker in the AWT, compared to APU and AGU.
The rods in te AGU is slightly better(stronger?) then the APU.

(I have an AGU, AWT and APU in the garage if it is anything you need to know.)

interesting corelation between 'head port' and 'vvt'.
all known vvt's are small port, and all known non vvt's, are large port
