    Hi guys,

Looking for some help with fuel tanks/pumps.

I have no tank on my shell so looking to source a mk2/3 tank.

Everyone suggests the mk3 vr6 tank. Is this as the tank has a high pressure pump or is it still a lift pump?

I will be running a Bosch 044 with a swirl pot so just need to keep it full!

Can anyone tell me the best route? Dont want to go buying a mk3 vr tank with scene premiums if I dont need to!

    Thanks

Whilst Im on topic also I have no fuel lines at all on the car. Can you still get the hard pipes? Are they more expensive than running fuel hose instead?

    Thanks

It doesn't have to be a vr6 tank all mk3 petrol use same tank, depending on power running use a early corrado vr6 pump as they are higher rated than golf vr6

Thanks dsj20v, is this a lift pump in the tank or a high pressure pump? not sure if mk3 use 2 pumps like a mk2?

Mark3 cars have a fuel delivery module in the tank with a built in swirl pot. The main pump is part of that assembly.

Pumps in later EU2 GTI cars are 100l/min at 3 bar or 100l/min @4 bar for EU1 cars.

    Either will work.

    Thanks Toyotec.

Would you still recommend a separate swirl pot before the Bosch 044.

Will the MK3 be ok circulating though at 3/4 bar?

Or should I just shelf the 044 for now

With a MK3 fuel delivery module (FDM) no further modifications or additions are required, unless you have reason to uprate the flow of the pump.
In such a case all you need to do is to change the pump inside the module.

    Hi All,

So many months later, 044 sold but still struggling to find a MK3 Tank for less than an insane amount of money.

Seriously considering buying new an external pump and swirl pot again! i now have a MK2 tank spare, from an 8V GTi, will the lift pump be adequote for keep a swirl pot full for an external pump.

Engine is an AGU running k04 and will have larger injectors (not decided what yet)

    Thanks

    Tom

yeah the stock lift pump can keep an external tank topped up no problem, a mate of mine did this on his 20v rallye a long while ago now, not complete but you get the idea. MK3 filter carrier with MK1 GTI fuel pump clamped one side, and MK1 cab/rocco/g40 shape polo swirl pot on the other:

Ah thanks for the info RJ!
So i think i will go with Mk2 Tank and Lift pump (already in situ)
And then find a swirl pot and HP pump to go under the car.
Merlin seem to have quite a good stock.
I will be running an AGU with a K04, and then developing to a better turbo package/rods etc later.
Not sure what injectors yet...will the AGU ones cope to begin with (just to get it running)
With this in mind should i be aiming for 4bar?

    Thanks

    Tom.

I would have a word with the guys doing the map for you, they'll know what package of parts will work best for your desired torque and power curve :)

Hi all, so finally managed to pick up a mk3 tank with pump, lines etc.

What I cannot seem to find is the part number of the FDU!?! Any idea where I should be looking? It is a VDO unit

    Thanks

the pump itself will probably have a VDO part number on it, but you'll need to split it out of the outer plastic housing. but do you know what engine the donor car had? gti, 16v and 96 onwards vr6 are 3 bar, pre-96 vr6 use a 4 bar pump

No, it was sold to me as VR6 but this is what i wanted to check.

I have the FDU out so i will look and see if it is simple to split, if not we will just have to wait and see how it perform!

Still well happy i don't have to mess about with external pumps etc
