Top marks to new owner Paul getting a feature in Retro cars, nice to read that he gave all credit to Graham on the build. Cool.
Yep, saw the article - Paul mentioned it at Inters. It mentioned the day they spent at Brands Hatch, when Graham still owned it: had a ride round with Graham which was great (I'd arranged to be there for the Brands day, whenever it happened, seeing as they'd travelled so far). Maurice also came along with he Mk2. Pics when I find them... Here we go: Paul checks oil, Graham adds fuel, an my mate looks at the quality of the Golf he'd heard sooooo much about:
It's not a bad write up and the car looks awesome in the pictures, I went up to Llandow for the afternoon with Paul and Graham weather wasnt gr8 but it was a prity good afternoon, got a few laps in but turned out to jsut be a photo shoot realy! Unfortunate problem with the new wheels but was soon sorted by borrowing a few bolts from the rear wheels to get the car home and it's all sorted now! Can't wait for next year wen I have mine finished so we can get off to some proper tracks with some proper MK1's in force
http://clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103814 I will let you off Gary as you aint been around for a while . Tis a stunning car, i enjoyed the old Combe vid that done the rounds.
Oh, and I was looking for the car on it's new MOs. They look fantastic - doh, knew I'd seen a thread!
The car looks so much better on the new Mo's than the silver ones i had Drove it a few weeks back. It did seem strange driving it again, oh i miss the power. It will be good seeing it out again next year should have AP's on it then which will help a lot i was never 100% happy with the Hispecs. Also reworked wishbones and track rod ends if Paul pulls his finger out . Paul you better be in the low 18's or better when that work is done or i will kick your ass A few pics from Llandow Opps... Best to keep all 4 wheels on the car And one because i like playing with Photoshop
My self i didnt like it, but as a first track day it would be a bit of fun. How many cars go out in a session on there days??? As its a small track i could see it just being a pain trying to get past people. I always like the bigger tracks, but thats just me
I have some vids in my signature to give you an idea. Usually about 20 cars there but there's never all of them out at the same time so ok.
awesome pics. I can remember when this car used to be entered in show and shine... probably still could today! awesome bit of kit. And Ace pics Graham (nice photoshop skills too).
Cheers guys, i will email the link to Paul he will be able to shed some more light on future plans for the car.
Hi Guys, Thanks for all the great comments, just made my day. Had a bit of a bad year with the car so realy looking forward to things going right next year. Vans I will do all in my powers to try to get into the 18's, but don't hold your breath, haven't quite grasped the balls the size of melons to push the thing that hard yet. Still hopefully with some practice hope to break the 20's in the new year. I will let you guys know when I'm next out and your welcome to come out for passenger rides. GVK - Cheers, I couldn't not give Vans the credit for the excellent work done on the car and all the help and abuse I get from him now. I was a bit gutted with the article as the things that I have said and what was put in the mag are quite different. I guess that's journalists for you. (Anyone who says I don't like the noise the car makes is not quite there). One bit of good news though is Simon who did the shoot wants to do another with a different mag to try to make more of it. I have a few more bits to do to it before then though especially learning to drive it better. Good to see those pics Chris, that was an excellent day at brands. Would love to go back there as soon as I get myself sorted. Cheers Paul
