I've heard of it being done - more common on diesels, but I can't see it doing any harm in a petrol injection systen either - just don't add buckets of ATF, or it'll leave a James Bond smokescreen......

I just tried the "Italian" tune up, went down the A19 towards Middlesborough in third the diesel pumps rev limiter kickled in at just under 4k [:x] no black smoke, though the engine has only done 64k [:D]

Holding the engie at full revs and load for a while, to clean out some of the shite from the engine.
Comes from the days when rich people used to buy expensive Italian sportscars, then use them for posing up and down the boulevard all day. Eventually they'd foul plugs and generally get coked up.
When they brought it to the dealership the mechanic would give it a "tune-up" consisting of a good thrashing for a few miles, and then hand it back to the owner who would be delighted with the nice smooth running of the car....

i just did it to my car.

i put about 2 and a half pints through the engine... it did make the car rev nicer but not all that mcuh black stuff came out...

i pulled the plug off of my air box which leads to the throttle body (8v digifant)... it sucked water in but i dont think it got enough at a time. will have to try it with a shorter hose..

TSC why dont u make a thing for this in the FAQs... you can add pics for 8v, drivers and 16vs inc pics! ;)

I poured the water directly into the top of the carb a little at a time which worked a treat! About a litre as TSC said, left loads of black sooty stuff on my drive afterwards too :)

Just went under the bonnet of my 1.3 mk 2, can't find the vaccum hose that leads to the carb. It goes to the base of the round air filter case but does not lead into the carb itself. How do i get the water into the carb without pouring it in???

Take the air filter housing off and pour it directly into the carb :)

Sprayed as mist manually from a bottle at throttle body with boost hose removed whilst reving the engine
