I think you're right the alloy block would be a better option but I think its just that the steel blocks are well known and reliable blocks and readily available. I may be wrong but I think the small block alloy units at least have some issues with warping when disassembled?

I'm currently having my bottom end rebuilt. Wish I went for a FSi lump now... Most interesting read I've seen for a while. 290+bhp N/A, I just wet myself thinking about it

amazing thread, this is what I was looking for years, finally proper design of VW FSI head for N/A.
Look very similar to my racing honda S2000 f20 head, and pretty close to old Graf 16v.

I have toally missed this thread, dont know how, but its a really good read.
On the pistons, i take it that due to the direct injection of the FSI system the pistons must be changed for conventional design to maximase airflow in the combustion chamber?

Has anybody used the alloy block?
It has to be worth a go due to the 20kg weight advantage of using it!

I sware by ABF motors, but this makes me think....

^Very nice. Did you make a complete plug insert for the injector holes or did you just patch over each port?

Very nice. I'm in the process of getting the base parts ready to build an FSi for my race car. I have to use an early 1800 block due to regs so slightly more difficult hence quite a bit of reasearch first [:^(] Hugo (HPR) has quite a file of info on these engines and many parts.

I'm interested in the welding (I assume its welded) on the ports, the injector holes and chambers. What process did you use and how did you avoid warping/distortion etc.

Standard valve sizes? What rocker system? Who's/what cams, Who's manifold?

Sorry lots of questions but you know what it's like [:$]

I make plugs for the injector hole's and weld then. put the cilinderhead in a oven weld and put it back in the oven and let it cool down for a day. You can see it in the picture differnt colour of the aluminium. Manifold is cutom made out a billet of aluminium So alllso will be the dry sump caps. Ready on two or three weeks.
I make the rocker systeem mechanical.necessary for the cam schaft. I get one from a vw polo S2000

Some parts of the dry sump are ready. The aluminium pully is anodiseerd whit nituff. Thats why the colour is grey. But it is very hard.

    More picture's in the future.
